New York Yankees offer no details on Joba Chamberlain's injury as
consultation with specialist looms

    Joba Chamberlian的狀況可以總結為兩個字: James...Andrews.

    雖然洋基隊週二沒有透露Chamberlain珍貴的右肩膀檢測，包括照射核磁共震，的任何
結果，但球團明確地表示，週三Chamberlain將帶著照射後的圖片到阿拉巴馬州的伯明罕，
去諮詢知名的專科醫生Andrews的意見。

    而且雖然總教練Joe Girardi和GM Brian Cashman沒有表明任何更深入的細節，大家卻
認為當事情牽涉到Andrews時，通常不會是什麼好的訊息。再加上洋基不願意表露明確的內
容，事情似乎不太樂觀。

    球團的共同主席Hank Steinbrenner聽來像是獲悉壞消息的人士，他表示: "這真是太
糟了，但還是發生了。希望一切都沒問題。我們真的還不知道Joba確實的情況是如何。"

    即使Chamberlain的父親Harlan都不願意透露檢查的細節。他在內布拉斯加的林肯市透
過電話表示，他兒子已經告知他昨天診斷的結果，但是"尚不能對大眾公開"。

    Ian Kennedy被期待下一次在安那罕將取代Chamberlain先發輪值的位置，而另一場則
Dan Giese取代Rasner的位置。
　　　
　　Kennedy過去四場在3A Scranton先發的成績ERA是1.33，他原本開季是洋基先發輪值的
一員，但是今年九場大聯盟比賽是投37又2/3局，成績是0勝3敗，ERA 7.41，還投出25個保
送。　

    Phil Hughes下週可能就可以準備好歸隊; 他預定週四將為Scranton隊投球。從手肘手
術復原Carl Pavano則稍微慢一點，週四將在2A Trenton隊上場投球。

    週一晚上坐在接近場內的球探表示，比賽第五局Chamberlain被換下場時似乎非常煩惱
而且感到疼痛，但球隊表達卻僅是"僵硬"而已。

    Chamberlain週二接受在紐約的洋基隊醫Stuart Hershon的檢查，根據球隊表示"進行
許多的檢測，包括核磁共震"。Harlan Chamberlain表示:

"他還好。"

    問到傷勢有多嚴重，Harlan表示: "還不清楚，還要一點時間才會知道。"

    Cashman表示是球隊想要徵詢第二意見，而不是Chamberlain個人的意思。

    Girardi表示: "檢查後還不確定能夠判讀是什麼問題。"

    除了Andy Pettitte, Mike Mussina, 王建民(受傷)，和Chamberlain以外，洋基先發
投手的成績是7勝19敗，ERA是6.15。所以損失Chamberlain的話，將讓60%的洋基先發輪值
都變成了問號。

    外野手Johnny Damon表示: "假如他出了問題將有巨大的影響，以我們這個攻擊形的
球隊應該在攻擊上幫助年輕的投手。我們必需要得分。雖然我們一整年都沒辦法多得一
點分時，但我們必須找到一個方法來幫助這些投手。"

    Cashman表示他還沒有在找尋一位資深的投手 (這個月球員如果通過了可撤回的讓渡
名單，還是可以進行交易)。

    Cashman表示: "不預期任何像這樣的事會發生。"

    週一賽後，Chamberlian和Girardi表示不舒服的地方最多的是在三角肌的部份 －
三角肌就在手臂的最上層，就位在肩膀的下面，這塊肌肉是負責肩膀前後左右的活動。

    Chamberlain週一晚上表示: "有什麼東西拉了和啪了一下，然後就變得僵硬了。以前
我從來沒有過這種感覺。我不是很確定是啪。只有點像是拉了一下，我猜，這麼形容比較
好點。" (拉和啪恐怖程度差很多耶...Joba)

    第五局時(原文寫第四局)，Chamberlain必須急速躺到地上，避開捕手I-Rod傳到二壘
的球 (這個守備最後被判定是個界外球)。Chamberlain表示他翻倒在地時並沒有傷到手臂
。

    假如不是這樣的話，傷勢會很嚴重，然後洋基也會被質疑對Chamberlain的處理失當。

    雖然洋基的計畫是控制Chamberlain的局數在一定的總局數之內(約145-150局左右)，
這讓Chamberlain先待在牛棚，季中再轉任先發。但當投球數逐漸增加時，應變的措施卻
變得不太尋常，但這不是表示角色轉換後不同的工作負荷，就會對Chamberlain身體的健
康造成影響。

     Hank表示: "今年球員受傷已經對我們造成嚴重的打擊，而這就是令人遺憾的事了。
球迷希望洋基隊可以克服其他球隊無法應付的球員傷勢，但是事事總是不順人意。"



ARLINGTON, Texas - Joba Chamberlain's status can be summed up in two words:
James.

Andrews.

While the Yankees on Tuesday would not reveal any results from tests on
Chamberlain's prized right shoulder, which included an MRI, they did say
Chamberlain would take the images to Birmingham, Ala., Wednesday in a
consultation with Andrews, the renowned specialist.

And while manager Joe Girardi and general manager Brian Cashman would give no
further details, it is generally not considered a good sign when Andrews gets
involved. Add into that the Yankees' unwillingness to address specifics, and
it seems gloomy.

Team co-chairperson Hank Steinbrenner sounded like someone who had gotten bad
news.

"It's too bad, but it happens," Steinbrenner said. "Hopefully everything will
be okay.

"We really don't know yet on Joba for sure."

Even Chamberlain's father, Harlan, was unwilling to divulge details.

Speaking by phone from Lincoln, Neb., Harlan said his son had told him of
yesterday's diagnosis but that "it's not for publication."

Ian Kennedy is expected to take Chamberlain's spot the next time through the
rotation, on Friday or Saturday at Anaheim, with Dan Giese pitching the other
day.

Kennedy has a 1.33 ERA over his past four outings at Triple-A
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He began the season in the Yankees' rotation but in
nine major-league games this year is 0-3 with a 7.41 ERA and 25 walks in 37
2/3 innings.

Phil Hughes could be ready for his return next week; he is scheduled to pitch
Thursday for Scranton. Carl Pavano (recovering from elbow surgery) is further
away, with his next outing Thursday for Double-A Trenton.

Scouts sitting close to the field Monday night said Chamberlain seemed
distraught and in pain when he departed the game in the fifth inning with
what the team termed merely "stiffness."

Chamberlain on Tuesday was examined by Yankees team physician Stuart Hershon
in New York and "underwent a number of tests, including an MRI," according to
the team.

"He's fine," Harlan Chamberlain said.

Asked how serious the injury is, Harlan said, "Don't know yet. Time will
tell."

Cashman said the second opinion is being sought at the team's request, not
Chamberlain's.

"I wouldn't necessarily (read) anything into it," Girardi said.

Yankees starters other than Andy Pettitte, Mike Mussina, Chien-Ming Wang
(injured) and Chamberlain are 7-19 with a 6.15 ERA. So losing Chamberlain
creates a rotation with 60 percent question marks.

"If he's down it's huge," outfielder Johnny Damon said. "We as an offense
need to go out and help these young guys. We need to score runs. We haven't
been doing it all year, but we need to find a way to help these guys out."

Cashman said he wasn't seeking a veteran pitcher (players can be traded this
month if they clear revocable waivers).

"I would not anticipate anything like that taking place," Cashman said.

After the game Monday, Chamberlain and Girardi said the discomfort was more
in the deltoid - the muscle at top of the arm, just below the shoulder, that
is responsible for shoulder motions to the front, side and back.

"It was something where it grabbed and popped and got stiff," Chamberlain
said Monday night. "I've never had it before. I wouldn't necessarily say
popped. It just kind of grabbed, I guess, is a better (description)."

In the fourth, Chamberlain had to dive to the ground to get out of the way of
a throw to second by catcher Ivan Rodriguez (a play that was eventually ruled
a foul ball). Chamberlain said he did not hurt his arm on that fall to the
ground.

If it wasn't that, and the injury is serious, then the Yankees may wind up
being questioned for their handling of Chamberlain.

While their plan was to keep his innings pitched under a specific total, that
led to converting Chamberlain from relief to starting in midseason. And while
his pitch count was increased gradually, it was an unusual move, and there is
no telling if adapting to a different workload had an affect on Chamberlain's
health.

"We've been hit by injuries hard this year, and it's just a shame,"
Steinbrenner said. "People expect the Yankees to magically overcome injuries
other teams can't, but it doesn't work that way."
