一篇很感人的報導，Tyler Kepner的文章通常令人很感動。本來要放在Update News裡的，
後來還是覺得全翻出來比較好。希望不要再有版友一直批評Posada了。

幾個月的嘗試後，Posada選擇對自己誠實

    我開始擔任洋基的隨隊記者時，在2002年球季前，便有人告知我，洋基隊員中對媒體
很誠實的其中一個球員便是Jorge Posada。後來我發現這個說法基本上是正確的。Posada
是很少數會原原本本地跟記者表露情緒的一個球員，他不會害怕讓別人知道自己真實的感
覺。

    肩膀對Posada的折磨只要看到他這個球季的傳球應該便夠清楚了。而望著他在球員休
息室的裡樣子就更是明顯。有些天他和記者們說了些話，短短幾句話中他強調自己是個捕
手。就我的感覺，那些話是Posada表露自尊的談話，因為比起其他位置的守備球員，捕手
們更會認為守備位置就是自己身份的一種象徵。

    至始至終，當Posada不顧一切上場守備時，他私底下也曾害怕會發生最壞的情況。他
想要相信自己不會傷害球隊，但是週六對上運動家隊的賽後，他無法再暪騙自己了。他
告訴GM Brian Cashman有些事需要去處理，他不可以在這樣繼續下去。

    週一時當球員休息室開放後不久我走近他，對於這個議題Posada表現得比以前更是平
靜。他回到了傷兵名單，在週二要去見David Altchek醫生，煩擾他好幾個月肩膀問題終
究接近要作最後評判的時候了。假如本季他還能上場比賽會讓我感到驚訝。

   Posada想要贏，之後他告訴一群記者一些特別的事情讓他還想繼續留在2008年的洋基
隊。但是他必須想到未來三個球季，他將以先發捕手的身份讓球隊支付他3930萬的薪資。
而且假如Posada知道肩膀關節唇的手術需要六個月的復健期，他就不能等到11月再作手術
。他必須現在就作手術。

   Posada表示: “那是件大事，我不要錯失兩年的時間。為了這傷勢讓我的守備手忙腳亂
，因為我已經不是百分之百的狀況，我是忍著痛盡力在守備。我在盡全力作我能作的事了
，但是這肩膀就是不聽使喚。”

When I started on the Yankees’ beat, before the 2002 season, I was told that
one of the players who would always be honest with reporters was Jorge Posada.
That basic sentiment, I have found, has been dead-on. Posada is one of few
players who speaks from genuine emotion, unafraid to let people know how he
is really feeling.

Posada’s shoulder ordeal has been evident enough just by watching his throws
this season. Watching him in the clubhouse has been revealing, too. Some
days, he has been short with reporters, curtly insisting that he is a
catcher, period. That was Posada’s pride talking, I think – catchers, more
than players at any other position, find much of their identity in the
position they play.

All along, while he tried desperately to play, Posada had privately feared
the worst. He wanted to believe he was not hurting the team, but after
Saturday’s game against Oakland, he could not fool himself any longer. He
told General Manager Brian Cashman that something had to be done, that he
could not go on like this.

When I approached him on Monday, shortly after the clubhouse opened, Posada
seemed more at peace with the topic than he had been all season. He is back
on the disabled list, off to see Dr. David Altchek on Tuesday, close to some
sort of finality on the topic that has nagged at him for months. I would be
surprised if he plays again this season.

Posada wants to win, and he told a group of reporters later that there was
something special going on with the 2008 Yankees. But he has to think about
the next three seasons, over which he will earn $39.3 million to be the
starting catcher. And if Posada learns that the labrum surgery he needs will
require six months of rehabilitation, he will not be able to wait until
November for the operation. He will have to do it now.

“That’s the biggest thing,” Posada said. “I don’t want to miss two
years. I’m already flustered with this one, because I haven’t been 100
percent and I’ve been trying to play through a lot of pain. I’m trying to
do everything I’m capable of doing, but the shoulder’s messed up.”
