1. 4月20日記者引用的Hank Steinbrenner的話，他提到了Mike Mussina "需要的就是學習
   Jamie Moyer是怎麼投球"。那個時候Mussina才剛輸給了紅襪隊，戰蹟是1勝3敗，5.75
   的自責失分率。

2. 所以，Hank你覺得Mussina狀況轉好的原因是什麼? 我們是不是應該將其中一個原因歸
   功於小老闆激勵球員的技巧呢? Hank在週日早上接受一個電話專訪中表示: "我不想將
   這件事歸功在我身上。而是Mussina夠精明讓他瞭解自己的球路威力，他已經投球投了
　 這麼多年了。"

3. Hank不只是不想要這個功勞 － 他真的是George Steinbrenner的兒子嗎? (還真不不像
   呢) － 他甚至還責備自己一開始怎會那樣去說Mike Mussina (果然還真不像George的
   兒子)。他說: "說實話，我不認為一定是因為我在那時候說了任何的話，才造成他的改
   變。他終究會自己會想出解決的辦法的。他根本上就是個很有經驗的專業球員，也是一
   個相當精明的人。他會依他認為有需要的方式去作改變。雖然他還是Mussina，擁有的
   球路仍是一樣。但是他運用不一樣的方式，不同的速度投出這些球，他想出他作得到的
   解決方法，而他辦到了。他已經找到解決的方法。"

4. Steinbrenner對45歲只投變化球的費城人隊投手Moyer的評論，引發了眾人嘲笑這位洋
   基隊的共同擁有人缺乏棒球知識。Mussina甚至在第二天開玩笑地說: "我才沒有左手
   的手套呢!" Hank表示: "每個人都在談論: '嗯，他連Mussina是右投手，而Moyer是個
   左投手都分不清楚。' 其實我瞭解，他已經看他們倆人投球看了15-20年了。事實上我
   說的是投球的形態，那跟你用那一手投球沒有關係。"

　(註: 說來Mussina這個挖苦，也稍嫌過份了點。只是Hank被吐嘈似乎也吐得很習慣了，
   先前他說他跟Cashman談過延長合約的事，Cashman表示沒有正式地談合約，後來自己也
   承認是探詢Cashman的意見，也不諱言自已可能曾經激怒了Cashman。只是Cashman延長
   合約的一事，第二天他弟弟Hal接受媒體訪問卻馬上否認，說會到季後才會談延長合約
   的事。一些媒體認為他兄弟倆的關係相當微妙，甚至認為Hank雖然經常放話，但不需要
　 太當真，球隊真正主導權是在Hal的手上。)

5. Mussina最近的一場勝投，是在週六對上太空人隊時，投了六局失了三分，目前的成績
   是10勝4敗, 3.87的自責失分率。前一場則由Joba Chamberlain於週五晚上大聯盟生涯
   場先發，投出六局的好投。Hank則同樣在四月接受New York Times的專訪中，他要求
   "現在"就將Chamberlain移入先發輪值，但之後他認同Brian Cashman的計畫，拖延
   Chamberlain從牛棚轉換為先發的時間，Chamberlain直到6月3日才首度的先發。

6. Hank表示: "這就是Joba的先發，且已經第三場先發了，他投得非常的好。他的情況只
   會越來越好。顯然他在就可以重要的時刻對球隊有貢獻。雖然仍需要一點適應的過程
   ，但我就是真的，真的很高興看到Joba這麼好的表現，Brian也覺得很滿意，甚至這才
   只是他的第三場先發。" Hank繼續說: "我和Doc Gooden談過，他認為或許Chamberlain
   的第四場，或第五場先發，我們將真的能夠看到些什麼。(Chamberlain)絕對是個真貨
   ，這是不需懷疑的，他將持續的進步，他才22歲而已。"

HOUSTON - On April 20, Hank Steinbrenner was quoted as saying Mike Mussina
"just needs to learn how to pitch like Jamie Moyer."

At the time, Mussina had just been beaten up by the Red Sox and was 1-3 with
a 5.75 ERA. Since then, he's gone 9-1 and has put himself in contention for
the American League All-Star team for the July 15 game at Yankee Stadium.

So, Hank, what do you think of Mussina's turnaround? Do we score one for the
Baby Boss' motivational skills?

"I'm not going to take credit for that," Steinbrenner said in a telephone
interview Sunday morning. "He's smart enough to figure that stuff out
himself. He's been playing baseball a long time."

Not only does Steinbrenner not want the credit - is he really George
Steinbrenner's son? - he also admonished himself for talking about Mussina in
the first place.

"I don't think it was necessary for me to say anything, truthfully, at that
point," he said. "He was going to figure it out himself. He's the ultimate
pro veteran and a very smart guy. He made the changes he thought he had to
make. He's still him, though. It's still his pitches. He's throwing them
differently, different speeds. He's approaching it different, but he figured
out what he had to do and he did it. He's done it."

Steinbrenner's comments about Moyer, a soft-tossing 45-year-old lefty with
the Phillies, brought guffaws about the Yankees co-owner's supposed lack of
baseball knowledge. Mussina even joked the next day, "I don't have a lefty
glove."

Said Steinbrenner: "Everybody was talking about, 'Well, he didn't realize he
was a righty and Moyer's a lefty.' I realized. I've been watching both of
them for freaking 15-20 years. The fact is that I was talking about a style
of pitching and it doesn't matter what hand you throw with."

Mussina's latest win was his six-inning, three-run performance Saturday in an
8-4 victory over the Astros. He's 10-4 with a 3.87 ERA. It followed Joba
Chamberlain's solid six-inning outing Friday night in his third big-league
start.

Steinbrenner, in that same April interview with the New York Times, demanded
Chamberlain be moved into the Yankees' rotation "now," but he was later on
board with general manager Brian Cashman's plan to hold off on Chamberlain's
transition from the bullpen. Chamberlain didn't make his first start until
June 3.

"This is just the start for Joba and already on the third start, he was
pitching extremely well," Steinbrenner said. "And it's only going to get
better for him. He's obviously contributing right now, big time. It's still a
process and I'm just really, really happy and so is Brian about how great
he's doing, even by the third start.

"I talked to Doc Gooden and he was thinking maybe by the fourth start, the
fifth start, we'll really start seeing something. [Chamberlain] is the real
thing, there's no question, and he'll continue to improve. He's 22."
