4.18~4.20(@BAL),4.22~4.24(@CWS), 4.25~4.28(@CLE)
OFFDAY: 4.1, 4.21
Jason Giambi開玩笑說:也許這是為什麼我們跑這麼多的原因
開季不能用4人輪值
Moose有個應付這個賽程的辦法:
「我大概會準備四個行李箱,回家把兩個放下,再拿兩個走」

TAMPA, Fla. --
Blame Benedict.
Not ex-Atlanta Braves catcher Bruce Benedict, but Pope Benedict XVI.
The Yankees' April schedule is "terrible," as general manager Brian Cashman
said yesterday, and it will affect the roster decisions they make in
spring training.
After an eight-day, seven-game homestand, the Yankees spend 19 of the next
21 days on the road -- the only exception a two-game series against the
Boston Red Sox. The Yankees are scheduled to play 18 road games in April,
which would be a franchise record.
Traditionally, teams get extra off days in April. But this year the Yankees
have a stretch of 19 consecutive days with a game, April 2-20.
"It's pretty stupid," Johnny Damon said. "Every year it doesn't make sense.
We come home for two days. It's brutal. We're gone for seven, come home for
two, gone for 10. Why even come home?"
There are a two main reasons for the brutality:
The Pope. The original schedule had a more balanced April. But after it was
completed, Pope Benedict scheduled an April 20 mass at Yankee Stadium.
So some Yankees home games were flipped to accommodate the event and its
preparation.
An unusually early start to the season. The Basic Agreement allows teams no
more than 10 off days before the All-Star break. But the All-Star break this
year is in the 16th week of the season instead of the usual 15th. So some
games were moved to the first half of the season, and many teams have
only two off days in April.
The third week of April is baseball's "squeeze week," when teams have to
play three series instead of two. Katy Feeney, Major League Baseball's
senior vice president for scheduling and club relations, said MLB tries
to avoid any team having a two-game trip or two-game homestand because of it.
But the Pope's visit fouled that up, causing a two-day homestand between
two three-city trips and Damon's consternation.
"That is a little bit unusual," Feeney said. "But you can't just flip-flop
series and make everything right."
Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina said the worst aspect of the April schedule
is six night "getaway" games, series-ending games after which the team flies
to another city. So they will arrive in the wee hours in Boston on April 11
(from Kansas City), in Tampa Bay on April 14 (from Boston) home from
Tampa Bay on April 16 and home from Cleveland on April 29.
Manager Joe Girardi said he can't remember being on a team that played 19
straight days in April. The Yankees will have to be ready to go.
"Maybe that's the reason why we're running so much," Jason Giambi said.
Because of the schedule, the Yankees are almost certain to open the season
with 12 pitchers. They won't be able to open with a four-man rotation,
as has happened in some years, and with starters not having established
their endurance, relievers who can throw multiple innings will be valuable.
"You have to be deep in pitching," Girardi said.
And Girardi hopes to give his regulars time off in the opening month.
"I think that's what he's really planning on doing," Giambi said. "He's
going to make a really conscious effort to really get guys days (off)
here and there."
Giambi said the tough April schedule could a "blessing in disguise." If it
forces Girardi to rest players early in the season, the veterans could be
fresher than usual late in the year.
According to Giambi, rest early in the year was the reason behind the
charges Giambi's Oakland teams usually made in the second half.
Meanwhile, Mussina has an idea how to cope.
"Maybe I'll pack four suitcases," he said, "come home, drop off two,
grab two more and go."
