這是美東時間22日的新聞 07/22/2008 6:54 PM ET Girardi to split up catching duties Both Molina, Moeller will get their fair share of playing time By Willie Bans / MLB.com NEW YORK -- With catcher Jorge Posada on the disabled list, the Yankees didn't need to make any adjustments to their roster. They've had catchers Jose Molina and Chad Moeller on board for a while, and the two provide different options for manager Joe Girardi. Molina (.227 batting average, 11 RBIs) has made 52 starts this year, and he leads the Majors with a 48.1 caught stealing percentage. Moeller has started 18 games and caught starting pitcher Darrell Rasner against Minnesota on Tuesday. The decision to start either one will be "day by day," Girardi said, and Molina will probably catch Mike Mussina on Wednesday, like he typically does. "We'll split it up," said Girardi, adding that he's mindful of Molina's left hamstring injury earlier this season after he played seven straight games. "We'll try to keep them both healthy and productive. ... One guy gets hot, we might go with him a little bit more, but they're both going to play." Girardi touted Moeller's comfort level with Rasner, as he caught him during Rasner's first four starts this season. "Chad really understands his stuff," Girardi said. "Part of the relationship is the trust the pitcher has in the catcher as well. I always feel that that relationship is vital, and I think that Chad can get on Ras when he needs to, or he can tell him, 'I don't think that's the right pitch.' "And I think Ras has complete trust in Chad when he says that." Moeller, a nine-year veteran, seems to have a fine knowledge of Rasner's stuff, and he said he believes Rasner should use his fastball more often to set up his other pitches. "I know what he wants to do, and I have a pretty good idea of what he's capable of doing and I don't try to ask him to do more," the 33-year-old Moeller (.239 batting average, one home run, eight RBIs) said. "At times you have to stop him from being too creative out there. He's fun to work with, he has some good pitches to work with and he's not afraid to try something. Moeller said he hasn't been told how often he'd play -- and as of Girardi's pregame media conference Monday, the manager didn't know the outcome of Posada's meeting with a doctor to discuss possible season-ending surgery on his injured right shoulder -- but he's set either way. "I prepare for it any day, but I don't know when the times are going to come that they need you," Moeller said. "It's been the last few years for me, so it's just coming prepared every day, and if they don't need you, that's fine, and if they do, you're prepared for it." Molina said he feels fine and is ready whenever the team needs him. "I'm OK -- I'm ready every day," Mollina said. "I'm ready every time Joe puts me in the lineup. I'll always be ready. It's a day off, but I don't take it as a day off. I've got work to do." Willie Bans is an associate reporter for MLB.com.
