UPDATE, 5:56 p.m.: You may have heard the story about John Challis. He’s the young man from Freedom, Pa., who is dying of liver cancer but had his first hit in a varsity game this spring and graduated with honors. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette did a wonderful story on him as did ESPN. (註:此報導就在第一個連結) Freedom is about 30 miles from PNC Park and John is here today and was in the clubhouse before batting practice. He had a chance to meet most of the players. Derek Jeter, who has a perfect grasp on what it means to be the captain of the Yankees, was terrific with the kid (as was Alex Rodriguez and everybody else) and hopefully John will have a great day. I can’t imagine for one second what he must be going through. “The kid has no fear,” Girardi said with admiration. “He’s an amazing boy.” http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/06/25/game-78-yankees-at-pirates/ 今天他和他父親來到洋基球場 洋基安排在老闆的包廂看比賽 A-Rod帶John父子去他家參觀並開車載他們到球場 下面文章,一樣來自亞伯拉罕的部落格 A-Rod does a good deed You may remember the post we had last week about John Challis, the terminally ill young man from Pennsylvania who visited the Yankees at PNC Park. Well, the 18-year-old and his father wanted to visit the Stadium and already had plane tickets. When the Yankees found out, they got him a seat in the owner’s box on Tuesday night. Alex Rodriguez then arranged to meet with John and his dad at his apartment in Manhattan and drive them to the game. “It was awesome,” Challis told reporters. “It was cool that somebody that big took time out of his busy schedule to take me for a ride to the ballpark.” Great job by Alex and the Yankees to make this happen. Media relations guy Jason Zillo had a big hand in it. http://yankees.lhblogs.com/2008/07/02/a-rod-does-a-good-deed/ 另一篇來自Tyler Kepner的部落格: A-Rod’s Whirlwind Day By Tyler Kepner Alex Rodriguez left his hotel room Tuesday with a special guest. It’s not who you may think, considering the gossipy whirlwind surrounding him now. It was John Challis, a teenager with liver cancer whose story is beautifully told here.(這裡指第一個連結) Challis met some of the Yankees last week in Pittsburgh, and Tuesday he hung out at Alex’s apartment and drove with him to the ballpark. Before batting practice, Challis took a nap in Manager Joe Girardi’s office. “I’ll stick with the Pirates,” John said, when asked if the Yankees were his favorite team. “But I like watching the Yankees and the Red Sox, too.” John has a foundation with a Web site (http://www.courageforlifefoundation.org/) that describes him as “a determined, positive, happy inspiration,” and it’s true. Great job by the Yankees in treating him to such a special day. http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/01/a-rods-whirlwind-day/ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.109.23.24 ※ 編輯: yyhong68 來自: 140.109.23.24 (07/02 14:21)
