Yankees announce 2009 spring slate
Ticket prices won't be raised as Grapefruit League play gets early start

NEW YORK --

The New York Yankees will begin their Grapefruit League slate on Feb. 25
against the Toronto Blue Jays, opening the 2009 Spring Training schedule
with the earliest start in at least 60 years.

The Yankees will play their first home game at George M. Steinbrenner
Field on Feb. 26 at 1:15 p.m. ET, hosting the Tampa Bay Rays in the
first of 16 total home exhibitions at the Tampa, Fla., stadium complex.

In addition, the Bombers announced that ticket prices for 2009 Spring
Training games at George M. Steinbrenner Field will remain the same as
last season.

New York's Grapefruit League schedule calls for 33 games against Major
League clubs, in addition to two home exhibition games against
World Baseball Classic teams at George M. Steinbrenner Field. On March 3
at 1:15 p.m., the Yankees will host Team USA, and welcome Team Canada on
March 5 at 1:15 p.m.

Included in the Yankees' 16 total home exhibition games against Major
League competition are six night contests (7:15 p.m. start time) on
March 6 vs. Detroit; March 10 vs. Cincinnati; March 17 vs. Pittsburgh;
March 19 vs. Toronto; March 24 vs. Boston and March 27 vs. Cincinnati.

Yankees pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report on Feb. 13, with
the their first workout set for Valentine's Day, Feb. 14. The Yankees' first
full-squad workout is scheduled for Feb. 18.The World Baseball Classic will
be played from March 5 through March 23.

This will be the Yankees' 14th Spring Training at George M. Steinbrenner
Field in Tampa, Fla. The complex was renamed for the Yankees' chairman on
March 27, 2008, following two unanimous resolutions supporting the change
issued by the Hillsborough County Commission and the Tampa City Council.

The resolutions cited Mr. Steinbrenner's many charitable donations to youth
activities, hospitals and the arts and recognized his numerous extraordinary
contributions to the area.

Season tickets for the Yankees' complete 2009 home exhibition schedule
will go on sale beginning the second week of December.  Individual-game
spring tickets will go on sale in January.  For information, fans can
