Spring training prep turns cold

Seriously, it was freezing today in Tampa - overnight lows in the 20s and
around 32 degrees this morning - so there was not much action at the Yanks'
minor-league complex, where players from the majors and minors are working
out in preparation for spring training. Some pitchers came out onto the
fields to play catch for a few minutes, but quickly headed back inside.
There was a plan for some infielders to take grounders, but that was nixed
because of the cold. Chien-Ming Wang was among the pitchers slated to
throw a bullpen session, but it was postponed until tomorrow.

嚴格來說，今天Tempa有夠冷。昨晚華氏20幾度，今天早上大約華氏32度（攝氏0度）
所以春訓基地內所有球員的活動變少了。幾個投手到球場上傳接球，沒多久就被趕
進去了。有幾個內野手想做守備練習，也因天氣太冷而喊卡。幾位投手，包括王建民，
原訂今日進牛棚，但這也被延期到明天再進行。


Here's how cold it was - one of the grounds crew guys was wearing a ski
mask. You know, one of those bankrobber-style things. I know, I know,
it's 89 below in Duluth and 12 degrees in the New York area, but 32 in
Tampa is COLD. They wrapped fabric around all the plants near my hotel
to protect them from overnight frost.

天氣有多冷呢？一個場地工作人員戴上滑雪用的面罩，你知道的，銀行搶匪會用的那種
我知道（再次強調），Duluth低於華氏常溫有89度 （華氏的常溫大約是華氏77度，
轉換後將會是攝氏零下24度），紐約是華氏12度(攝氏零下11度)，但是在坦帕，
華氏32度(攝氏0度)就叫做非常冷了。因為晚上可能會到接近冰點，所以所有在
我住的飯店附近的植物都有物品包裹保護著。

PS: 可否請教一下：below 89要怎麼翻？

那是89 degree below normal的意思..低於常溫89度
常溫約華式77/攝式25, 低於常溫89, 約攝式零下20幾度左右
77-89=-12 華氏零下-12度=攝氏零下-24度
