要開季了...這個季初有五個課題可以觀察...

1.
Alex Rodriguez took a beating after the last Division Series for failing to
hit in the clutch. But - like much of last year when the Yanks lost - their
failings were about defense as much as anything else. The Yanks automatically
upgrade with Johnny Damon getting to a larger percentage of balls that Bernie
Williams/Tony Womack/Melky Cabrera turned into doubles and triples. But to
make a significant improvement, the Yanks need Robinson Cano to concentrate
full-time to capitalize on what are superb defensive skills, and Jason Giambi
to play no more than half the games at first, and never after the seventh
inning of a tight game the Yanks lead. Andy Phillips could become an
important piece because of that.

去年許多場輸掉的比賽...最大的原因在防守...
今年守備交給Damon...比起去年的Bernie/Womack/Cabrera升級了兩倍甚至三倍...
另外要改進的...Cano今年接下整年二壘大關...
Giambi在七局過後比分接近或是領先的時候...也沒有守備型的一壘當候補...
所以說Phillips的表現也很重要...

2.
The Yanks show real interest in Roger Clemens. But it turns out that the
Rocket - displaying the Terrell Owens chamber in his soul - is merely using
the Yanks, Red Sox and Rangers to induce Astros owner Drayton McLane to pay
an exorbitant price, even if it's not as high as Texas owner Tom Hicks is
willing to go.

洋基對Clemens展現出有興趣...但是現在變成是經紀人用洋基紅襪跟遊騎兵的興趣...
來達到讓太空人老闆付更高價錢的目的...即使遊騎兵的老闆並不是真正地有興趣...

3.
Cano will be the AL All-Star second baseman. It helps that Alfonso Soriano
is in left field in the NL and that Baltimore's Brian Roberts is coming back
from a major injury. But Cano will rival Tampa's Jorge Cantu to be the AL's
most productive second baseman, reaching 60-plus extra-base hits.

Cano有可能將會成為All-Star的二壘手...因為Sori跑去國聯當左外野手...
金鶯Roberts剛從受傷中出來...但還有魔鬼魚的Cantu來競爭美聯最有攻擊力二壘手...
Cantu有單季60支以上extra-base hits的實力...

4.
Matt DeSalvo will be this year's Aaron Small. No, he will not go 10-0. But he
will provide valuable innings during the season for a fragile pitching staff.
Like Small, DeSalvo actually has an idea how to pitch, specifically in his
willingness to throw off-speed stuff behind in the count. And the word from
anybody who has been associated with him in the minors is that he is a
tenacious competitor

DeSalvo要扮演去年Small的角色...當然不會有10-0這麼亮眼的成績...
但是他將會在球季期間投手缺陣時候提供支援...
像Small一樣...DeSalvo知道要怎麼投...他是陣容背後可以?召上來有競爭力的投手...

5.
George Steinbrenner will break his vows to Brian Cashman not to usurp an
established chain of command, Gary Sheffield will moan some more about his
contract and the sun will set in the West.

老闆將會打破他對現金人不干涉他的指揮的承諾...Sheff也會繼續抱怨著他的合約...
