Since 2004, the Yankees have lived it in one way, shape or form. 有一句棒球的老諺語"投手永遠都不夠用"...自從2004年以來...洋基就是這個樣子... Joe Torre's biggest question at the beginning of spring training was not only how he'd align his starting rotation behind Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina, but who among Shawn Chacon, Chien-Ming Wang and Jaret Wright would work out of the bullpen once Carl Pavano was deemed healthy and ready. The Yankees have three more years and $30 million invested in Pavano, and despite his frustrating first season in pinstripes, they are not about to banish him to long relief, which leaves the other three battling for two positions. Torre在春訓裡面...面對最大的問題不只是怎麼安排Johnson跟Mussina以外的輪值... 一但Pavano準備好而且很健康...還要從Chacon和王建民和Wright裡面找一個去牛棚... 洋基花了三年3000萬投資在Pavano身上...雖然他第一年穿條紋衣表現令人沮喪... 但是洋基不打算把他放到長中繼...而是讓其他三個人來搶其他兩個先發... Torre isn't so sure Pavano will be ready by April 15, the first time the Yankees will need a fifth starter. Aaron Small, originally slated to fill the "swingman" role, will start the season on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring. Wright was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday with back spasms. Scott Erickson is still recovering from severe lower back pain. Torre不很肯定Pavano在4月15號會準備好...那是第一次洋基要五個輪值投手的時候... 另一個投手Small原本定位在調度的角色...但是因為右腿抽筋開季要在傷兵名單... Wright則是在上禮拜的先發時抽筋...Erickson也還在從腰傷恢復中... It left Torre pondering how to eventually fill that fifth spot, but he found no reason to panic despite working with a decreasing amount of healthy bodies. 這讓Torre對第五號投手該怎麼排傷腦筋...但是雖然傷兵這麼多Torre卻不擔心... "That's probably the advantage of having all those people," Torre said. "Because if you have some sort of breakdown, then you don't take 12 pitchers; you take 11 and you get to take a position player. I don't feel handicapped in any way." Torre說"擁有這些球員有個好處...因為假如有投手受傷了...不一定要排12個投手... 可以排11個投手然後多出1個防守球員...我不覺得這會妨礙到我的調度..." The Yankees were getting excited about Pavano, who fell behind due to a sore back, but getting him being back by April 15 is not a guarantee. Pavano won't be ready to pitch in a game until at least next week, and Torre believes he'll need to work between 25 and 35 innings before being ready to join the team. 洋基對背傷的Pavano狀況感到振奮...但也不確定他可不可以在4月15號如期回來... 至少到下個禮拜前Pavano並不會隨隊參賽...並且Torre認為他要先投25到35局的量... 再準備好才可以回到隊上... "If he's in line, then you rethink it," Torre said. "But I don't want to count on somebody and find out we have to look for somebody in a hurry. We've been conservative the whole time, so we're not about to force him to get enough innings by that date." Torre說"如果他可以出賽...就要重新考慮讓他來上場...我不想依賴某些投手... 也不想要急著想尋找其他投手...這段時間會比較保守來調整...所以也不會去強迫他... 不一定要在那天之前投滿那些局數... Wright, who was having a terrible spring before allowing one run in four innings last Saturday, would be a natural candidate. But Wright's back locked up on Saturday while fielding a bunt during drills. He said through a spokesman he woke up Sunday feeling considerably better. Wright春訓表現糟糕...可是上週六投出4局失掉1分的表現...所以還算是候選人之一... 上週六在下丘處理觸擊球時候傷了背...不過他的發言人說星期天醒來後變的好多了... "The one guy we're curious about is Jaret," Torre said. "Geno (head trainer Gene Monahan) thinks he'll be able to take a bullpen by Thursday. If that's the case, Gator (pitching coach Ron Guidry) will figure it out and see when he'll get back on the mound." Torre說"Wright是我們很好奇的一個選手...Geno認為將讓他在星期四前練投一次... 假如看起來狀況不錯...Gator會安排他回到場上來投球..." Though Wright is expected to be ready for Opening Day, Scott Proctor and Matt DeSalvo are other options from Columbus. Proctor threw two scoreless innings against Detroit Monday and has a Grapefruit ERA of 1.12. DeSalvo is 1-0, 1.13 in three games (two starts) and Torre believes he's close to contributing on the major league level. 雖然Wright預定會被列在開幕戰上...但Proctor跟DeSalvo是AAA可以叫上來的人選... Proctor在葡萄柚聯盟(春訓聯盟)星期一對老虎丟了兩局...目前防禦率1.12... DeSalvo現在1勝0敗...3場比賽(2次先發)的防禦率1.13...而且Torre認為他的表現... 已經很接近大聯盟的水平... "We heard about him last year and what we saw this spring, we were impressed with him," Torre said. "From the people who know him more than we do, they're pretty comfortable with his insides. It's going to have to be a first time, some time." Torre說"我在去年聽說過他...並在今年春訓看了他的投球...對他感到有興趣... 瞭解他的人知道他有實力...某一天他將會上來上大聯盟..." Even if Erickson (0-2, 2.61 ERA in 10 innings) is healthy, Torre sees him as a middle relief man. And as a non-roster invitee, Erickson will make the team only if the Yankees purchase his contract and believe he can make significant contributions throughout the season. 縱然Erickson是健康的(0勝2敗10局防禦率2.61)...Torre還是把他定位在中繼... Erickson並不在40人名單...但這樣的表現...會讓球團跟他簽下合約... 相信這一季他會替洋基作出貢獻... "His velocity is not where it was at one time, but I still think he can be very useful to a ballclub," Torre said. "He throws strikes, he has movement and he's not afraid." Torre說"他的球速並不是那麼快...但我想他在球隊裡仍然會是一個很好用的投手... 他有控球...有尾勁...而且投球時候不會害怕..."
