NEW YORK -- Gary Sheffield welcomed Bobby Abreu with open arms figuratively and
literally in their first meeting on Tuesday.

在週二初次碰見Abreu，Sheffield禮貌性的張開手臂歡迎Bobby的到來。

With Abreu now manning Sheffield's usual right field, Sheffield's role, if and
when he returns from injury in September -- at the earliest -- will alter. But
that didn't stop him from hugging Abreu when he first saw him.

Abreu取代了Sheffield守他經常守的右外野，使得Sheffield在歸隊時勢必更改其在隊上
的防守位置，但這並未阻止Sheffield歡迎Abreu的到來。

Sheffield has only one thing on his mind, getting a World Series ring with a
"NY" on it. And while he said a younger, more-outspoken Sheffield may have
reacted differently to Abreu's presence, an older Sheffield accepted it as a
step toward his goal.

Sheffield心中只有一個目標，那就是在洋基拿到總冠軍戒指。Sheffield說他年輕時比較
直言不諱，若當時球隊買進Abreu，他可能就會有不同的反應；但現在老了，他說他能夠
接受讓Abreu取代他守右外野，並把這件事當作直指總冠軍的踏板。

"I'm hurt. I can't help this ball club right now," Sheffield said. "They've got
to do whatever they have to do to help this ball club, and I'm all for it. When
I signed on to come here, the first thing they said was they would do
everything they could to help get me a World Series ring and I'm all for it."

"我受傷了，我現階段對球隊根本幫不上忙。"Sheffield說。"他們必須去作任何對球隊

Sheffield won a World Series with the Marlins in 1997, but once he saw Joe
Torre's ring on the first day they met, Sheffield said he wanted one just like
his.

Sheffield在1997年的時候曾在馬林魚拿過總冠軍，但是當他初次與Torre碰面時 (簽到
洋基)，他就打定主意他也要Torre手上那枚印著NY的冠軍戒。

But if Sheffield wants to be a part of that process, he may have to switch
positions. Even before Sheffield went down with the left wrist injury, Torre
discussed moving the slugger to first base. On Tuesday, those discussions were
revisited.

但是如果Sheffield要在洋基打下總冠軍，那他勢必要在防守上作些更動。其實在
Sheffield受傷之前，Torre就曾討論過要把這門炮管移防到一壘，而在週二的時候，
之前的討論又被提及。

Sheffield worked out at first base with Don Mattingly before Tuesday's game,
trying to learn the proper footwork. Sheffield said he would be fine with a
position change, and Torre felt the veteran would have no trouble making the
adjustment.

在週二比賽前，Sheffield和Don Mattingly討教如何防守一壘，並嘗試著去學一些一壘
手的站位以及技巧。Sheffield說對於這個調動他很ok，而Torre也覺得這名經驗老道的球
員在調整防守位置上不會有什麼問題。

Sheffield broke into the Major Leagues as a shortstop and played much of his
early career at third base. Before Alex Rodriguez came to the Bronx, Sheffield
said he volunteered to play the hot corner.

Sheffield剛進大聯盟是守游擊，而他早期大多守三壘。在Arod來到洋基之前，Sheffield
便曾主動的要求守三壘。

"Thank God that didn't happen, but at the same time it worked out for the
better," Sheffield said, igniting laughter from the swarm of reporters.
"I fell the same way about this. The thing is, I'm versatile. I can do anything
on the baseball field."

Sheffield開了自己一個玩笑，讓圍著他的記者們笑了出來。接著他說："我是個老手，
我相信我在棒球場上任何一個位置都能夠駕輕就熟。"

Sheffield was in a playful mood while at the same time challenging those who
feel his career is over. Whether it's coming back from an injury or proving
he can still hit home runs at his age, Sheffield likes a dare.

Sheffield抱著輕鬆的態度去面對那些認為他職業生涯已然結束的言語，不論他傷癒歸隊
後這些言論是否又出現，抑或開始質疑他是否還能再打全壘打，他都勇於接受，他喜歡
挑戰。

"I thrive on that," he said. "I love this. I love that you're in my face
thinking that this can't be done. But trust me, I'll be laughing at the end.
Watch me."

"我喜歡挑戰這些言論"Sheffield說。"我喜歡你們當面認為我已不行，但相信我，我會
讓你們乖乖的收起嘴巴，看著吧!"

Sheffield still hasn't swung a bat since his injury. He will visit Dr. Charles
Malone again next Tuesday. He said the only negative news he's heard from the
doctor is that his rehab is going too well and that he's ahead of schedule.
But Abreu's acquisition should even solve that.

自Sheffield受傷至今他仍未揮過棒，他在下週二會再去看Malone醫生。他說唯一的壞消息
就是他的傷復原的比預期的還要快，但還好有Abreu接替了他的位置。(笑)

"I've got a chance to take my time now and get healthy as opposed to rush back,
" Sheffield said.

"我現在有機會證明我自己，我會保持良好的身體狀況來證明我自己。"Sheffield說。

As far as next year, Sheffield said he's just worried about getting healthy, so
then he can control his own destiny. Sheffield didn't have his $13 million
offer picked up by the Yankees for 2007, but that only gives him more reasons
to prove his value -- something Sheffield seems quite excited to get underway.

至於明年，Sheffield說他比較在意他自己的身體狀況，這樣他才可以掌控他自己的未來。
而洋基並未執行Sheffield明年的約，但這點讓Sheffield更想要證明自己。

"They don't owe me anything," Sheffield said. "I earned everything I got in my
18 years. I never was given anything."

"洋基沒有欠我什麼"Sheffield說。"我在18年的職業生涯中，該得的都已得到。"
