[新聞] On a No-Hit Night, Johnson Makes His Own Bid

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 6 — Early in Wednesday’s game against the Royals,
Randy Johnson of the Yankees lost one of his claims to fame. He no longer had
the most recent no-hitter in the major league.
堪薩斯市，9/6-星期三早場對上皇家的比賽，洋基的Johnson失去其中一項他保

In Florida, Ani'bal Sa'nchez had completed a no-hitter for the Marlins.
Johnson had been the last pitcher to accomplish the feat, throwing a perfect
game for Arizona in 2004. Now that Sa'nchez was the latest, Johnson seemed
determined to take back the distinction.

striking out eight in an 8-3 victory.

Johnson will be 43 on Sunday, and he seemed almost relieved the no-hit bid
ended when it did. He answered a few questions after the game, offering

Damon said Johnson playfully chided him in the dugout for not catching the

Johnson was indeed dominant, with a sharp slider and a fastball that hit 95
miles an hour, but he was not as overpowering as he was in his prime. The
veteran Mark Grudzielanek, who struck out twice, said this was not a
performance from Johnson’s heyday.

“But he definitely looked better than his numbers showed this year. He’s
definitely slowed down, but he still can get it done.”

The speeds are slower, but Johnson is still imposing because of his height
and the location of his pitches. He still whips fastballs from an unusual
angle to a variety of spots, so hitters still fear him.

“He’s not always around the plate, and you can’t really dig in against a
guy like that,” Grudzielanek said. “That’s what makes him really tough.

For the third time this season, Johnson started a game with at least five
no-hit innings. When this bid ended, Posada promptly picked DeJesus off third
base. Johnson called it the play of the game.

But the next batter walked, and after a long flyout to left field, Torre came
