如果大個兒沒辦法出賽,這下小王跟老穆責任更重了…唉 MRI exam reveals herniated disc in left-hander's lower back By Mark Feinsand / MLB.com Randy Johnson was given an epidural on Friday to reduce inflammation in his back. (Frank Franklin II/AP) MLB Headlines NEW YORK -- Randy Johnson's status for the postseason is up in the air after tests revealed a herniated disc in the left-hander's lower back. Johnson, who missed his final start of the season on Thursday after informing the club of recent back spasms, is slated to start Game 3 of the American League Division Series next Friday in either Minnesota or Detroit. Johnson visited team physician Dr. Stuart Hershon and back specialist Dr. Paul Kuflik on Thursday, and underwent an MRI exam. After the test revealed the injury, Johnson was given an epidural on Friday to reduce the inflammation. Dr. Hershon said that Johnson's current injury is not related to the disc problem for which he underwent surgery in September 1996. Johnson, who was not at Yankee Stadium on Friday, is scheduled to be with the team on Saturday, at which time he will play catch on the field. He will then throw a side session on Sunday, giving the Yankees an idea of his availability for the Division Series. "At that point in time, we'll see where we are," manager Joe Torre said. "Hopefully, [the epidural] will ease the discomfort. If it doesn't, I'm not sure he's going to be able to pitch. We don't expect that to be the case." Johnson has been battling tightness in his back in each of his past three starts, and the results on the mound -- 1-1 with a 7.67 ERA in those outings -- have reflected that. Both Torre and general manager Brian Cashman said that they trust Johnson to tell them the truth on Sunday, regardless of how badly he wants to pitch in the playoffs. "At his age and as long as he's pitched, he knows what he needs to do to get ready to pitch," Torre said. "He's been down this road before. When we go into the postseason, it's important. He understands that, no question." If Johnson can't go in Game 3, the Yankees would likely hand the ball to Jaret Wright, leaving Cory Lidle as the Game 4 starter. Rosters for the ALDS must be set either late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. "If he says he'll be ready to go on Friday, we'll write him in," Torre said. "If things change, we'll do something else, but I certainly want Randy Johnson, bad back and all."
