[新聞]紐時:Wright Tests Yanks' Bullpen, but Everyone Passes

Jaret Wright did not plan to watch the last four innings of Wednesday night's
game on a couch in the Yankees' clubhouse at Citizens Bank Park. He would have
preferred to stay in the game for seven innings, something he has not done all
season.

萊特他不打算在洋基休息區去繼續觀看禮拜三晚上在市民銀行球場,最後的四個半局

But Wright's body told him he was done after five, so he retreated to the
clubhouse and sat riveted to the television. He wore a sweatshirt and his
uniform pants, not taking time to shower. He liked what he was seeing.

innings so we can put up a couple more runs and get a little more breathing

The middle of the Yankees' order was no better. The Yankees had no hits from
the third, fourth, fifth and sixth batters in their starting lineup, but they
managed 11 hits over all, and Johnny Damon reached base five times.

The Yankees even figured out a rookie starter Wednesday. Cole Hamels was
impressive for the Phillies, allowing two runs in seven innings and baffling
Jason Giambi with sliders and changeups. Giambi, who struck out three times,
compared Hamels to Barry Zito, the Oakland ace. But Damon looked fine.

洋基星期三又面對到一個大聯盟的新人,他讓費城人印象深刻,七局只失兩分,而且面對大吉

Damon said he had worked with the hitting coach Don Mattingly on staying back
in his swing. That change, combined with a patient approach, made a difference
 against Hamels.

大門說他跟打擊教練Don Mattingly就揮棒的時間做討論,其中的改變就是讓棒子更有耐心

點,讓面對到Hamels時,稍微有點不一樣

"Every at-bat, I saw a lot of pitches, so I knew what he had," Damon said.
"That's always beneficial, especially off those young guys."

Hamels threw 103 pitches, 19 more than Wright, the only pitcher in the majors
with at least 10 starts who has failed to exceed six innings. Wright said the
adrenaline from his plate appearance in the fifth — when he drove in the
Yankees' first run with a sacrifice fly — might have worn him out, and it
showed.

Wright opened the fifth by throwing seven balls in a row, a stretch that
included a visit from the pitching coach Ron Guidry.

萊特在五局一開始中,也有一連投了七個壞球,中間投手教練 Ron Guidry也曾上來關切過

Sal Fasano, the second batter of the inning, thought he had walked on a 3-1
pitch. But the pitch was called a strike, the at-bat continued, and Fasano
grounded into a double play. After Wright walked Hamels, he got a groundout
grounded into a double play. After Wright walked Hamels, he got a groundout
from Jimmy Rollins to end the inning.

後上來的Fasano 相當配合的打出雙殺打.但萊特又隨及保送了投手,還好適時讓羅林斯也來

個滾地球來化解危機..

"He pitched his tail off," Manager Joe Torre said. "He may have gotten a little
 tired, because he started throwing balls in that fifth inning. But anytime you
 put some zeroes up and don't give up many hits, that's a positive."

Among the relievers, Wright singled out the left-hander Villone,who has quietly
had an outstanding season. Villone has a 1.80 earned run average but is not
often used in close games.This time, he retired all three left-handers he faced
in the sixth, striking out two and getting a ground out from Howard.

在這些救援投手中,萊特點出了左投Villone,他在本季表現相當的好,自責失分率只有1.80,

而卻在比數相近的比賽鮮少上場,這一次他把面對的三名左打,全都打包回家,先三振了前兩

名,面對強打Howard,也讓他擊出滾地球出局..

"The only thing I can say is I'm well rested and well taken care of," Villone
said. "I'm just waiting to get an opportunity and make the most of it. Every
day, I know I'm ready."

To Torre, Proctor always seems to be ready. He is tied for the A.L. lead in
appearances, with 36, and allowed only a hit batter in his scoreless seventh.

"This is the way we're supposed to pitch," Proctor said. "We're supposed to be

 The Yankees have a day off Thursday, and that may not be a good thing. They
were playing their best baseball of the season when a rainout June 7 preceded
a 3-8 stretch. Then came two victories here, and now the Yankees are off.

洋基星期四有一天休息,但那不一定是個好事,(接下來我看不太懂,6/7是有延賽,但應該不

是明天比吧)

"I don't think we want a day off now," Damon said, before reconsidering.
"But some of our bodies could take it."
