BOSTON -- When Johnny Damon returned to Fenway Park in May, the sellout crowd
booed him despite an 0-for-4 night and a Boston win.
On Friday, Damon gave Red Sox Nation a reason to jeer as he led the Yankees
to a 12-4 victory in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.
當在五月份Damon來到芬威球場時，滿場的觀眾對他賞以噓聲而該場Damon四打數零安打
，紅襪隊獲勝。

Damon went 3-for-6 with a triple, a homer, four RBIs and three runs scored,
pacing the Yankees' offense, which teed off on Red Sox pitchers for 17 hits.

"That's what we've seen him do on the other side of the field for so many
years," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "He just rises to the occasion."

Chien-Ming Wang earned his team-leading 14th win despite allowing seven
extra-base hits in six-plus innings of work. Wang and two relievers got the
outs when they needed them as the Red Sox went 0-for-16 with runners in
scoring position.

Bobby Abreu had four hits and a walk, and Jason Giambi had three RBIs and

The win boosts the Yankees' lead over the Red Sox in the American League East
to 2 1/2 games, three in the loss column. The two teams played again on
Friday night, the second game of the five-game weekend series.

"It was important to win the first game in the fashion we won it," Alex
Rodriguez said, "getting contributions from pretty much everybody in the
lineup."

Damon got the Yankees started in the first, tripling against Jason Johnson
(3-12) to lead off the game. Jeter singled him in, giving New York a quick
lead.

"Any time you hit at the top of the lineup, you set the tone," Torre said.
"He gives us more energy when he's on the basepaths. In these types of games,
you like having him on your side."

"I know what the job at hand is, and that is to get on base and try to make
things happen," Damon said. "We know these guys play very well here at home."

Boston tied it in the fourth after Eric Hinske -- playing in his first game
for Boston after being acquired on Thursday -- doubled, then moved to third
on Javy Lopez's fly out and scored on Alex Gonzalez's RBI groundout. Hinske
had three doubles in the game, tying a career high.
4局下半，第一次為紅襪打球的Hinske擊出二壘安打，靠著Lopez的犧牲打上三壘，
最後Gonzalez的犧牲打送他回本壘使得比數追平。Hinske這場比賽擊出3支二壘安打

Damon went back to work in the fifth, belting a two-run homer off Johnson
into the right-field seats. It was Damon's 19th home run of the season, his
eighth since the All-Star break and third in the last four games. New York
added another run in the inning on Giambi's RBI single, making it a 4-1 game.
5局上半Damon從J.J手上擊出右外野方向兩分打點全壘打，這是他個人本季第19發，自

"I thought I missed it and hit it too high," Damon said. "Fortunately for me,
it went far enough."

"It's always great when you can go back home where you've established
yourself and play a great game," Giambi said. "He had a lot of great
memories, and he'd be the first one to tell you that. He's the one that broke
us through."

Manny Ramirez homered in the bottom of the fifth and the Sox threatened again
in the sixth, putting runners at second and third with one out. Gonzalez
looped a ball to center, but Damon made a nice sliding catch for the second
out. Mike Lowell scored from third on the sac fly to make it 4-3, but Damon's
catch proved to be costly for the Sox as Wang retired Coco Crisp to end the
inning.

especially in this ballpark. No lead is safe."

The Yankees pulled away with four runs in the seventh, when Rodriguez doubled
in a run and Cano singled in two more. New York tacked on four more in the
ninth against Rudy Seanez.

Wang (14-5) won for the first time in three starts, throwing six-plus innings
of three-run ball. He pitched out of several jams as Boston had seven hits
through the first seven innings -- all for extra bases. But the Sox went
0-for-13 with runners in scoring position in that span, stranding six runners
on second and third.
王建民在這場第三度挑戰14勝的比賽中投6局多失三分。他今天數度遭遇危機使波士頓
在前七局有7支安打(全都是長打)。但是紅襪在這種狀況下13打數0安打，其中2,3
局時共留下6個殘壘。

"Wang, as inexperienced as he is, to be able to do what he did today with men
in scoring position and good hitters at the plate," Torre said, "I was very
proud."
Torre說：「向王建民這樣的新手今天在得分圈上有跑者，而打擊區有強打的狀況下能
有如此的表現，我感到很驕傲。」
