Giambi named AL Player of the Week
Yankees first baseman collects four homers and 10 RBIs

After hitting below .275 in each of the past three seasons, it appears the
Jason Giambi has found his swing early this season.
Giambi, first baseman for the New York Yankees, was named the Bank of America
American League Player of the Week after leading the American League in
hitting for the period ending on April 16.
在過去三個球季打擊率連續低於兩成七五之後，似乎 Giambi 在開季就找回
他的打擊能力。

The left-handed-hitting slugger went 8-for-14 (.571) with four homers and 10
RBIs.

Giambi, who has a lifetime average of .295 hasn't batted better than .275
since his first year with the Yankees in 2002, when he hit for .314 and had
41 home runs.

The five-time AL All-Star from West Covina, Calif., did most of his damage
against Kansas City, getting seven RBIs on five hits, including two home runs
off Royals pitchers Joe Mays and Jimmy Gobble. The Yankees swept the Royals
in a three-game series.

He also had a 1.671 slugging percentage and a .700 on-base percentage during
last week.

Other contenders for player of the week included two White Sox sluggers: Paul
Konerko and Jim Thome, who combined for eight home runs and 16 RBIs.

Ty Wiggington of the Devil Rays also had a great week, batting .320 with four
homers and nine RBIs.

Pitchers that were in the running included Boston right-hander Josh Beckett
(2-0, 1.93 ERA), Baltimore's Erik Bedard (2-0, 1.20 ERA) and Detroit's Mike
