NEW YORK -- Yankees slugger Jason Giambi will have surgery Thursday to
repair a torn tendon in his left wrist.
洋基砲手 Jason Giambi 準備在週四接受手術，修復手腕撕裂的肌腱。

Giambi was bothered by his sore wrist in the final months of the season,
and had at least three injections.
Giambi 上季的最後幾個月一直為手腕痠痛所苦，甚至還打了幾針 (類固醇)。

The former AL MVP hit .253 with 37 home runs and 113 RBI, then went 1-for-8
in the playoff loss to Detroit.

It has been a tumultuous two weeks for owner George Steinbrenner's club.
After winning the first game of their AL Division Series against the Detroit
Tigers on Oct. 3, the Yankees lost three straight for a quick exit in a
postseason many thought would yield the team's first World Series title
since 2000.

Soon after the defeat, speculation about manager Joe Torre's job security
arose, with initial reports claiming he would be fired. Oct. 10 was a busy
day, as Steinbrenner announced that Torre would return as manager, reports
surfaced that both pitcher Randy Johnson and Giambi would require offseason
surgeries, and general manager Brian Cashman stated that former MVP Alex
Rodriguez -- who once again struggled in the postseason -- would remain
in New York despite rumors to the contrary.

2003, the Yankees did win the AL East for the ninth straight season.

"Yes we fell short of our goals, but we still are a force to be reckoned
with," Cashman said. "We haven't fallen apart. We're not a second-division
club."

我們不會被壓力打垮，也不可能會變成一隻 B 級球隊。"
