NEW YORK -- Shawn Chacon had a catch on Saturday, which was good
news to both the pitcher and the Yankees.
Shawn Chacon週六開始練投，這對他與洋基都是好消息，

Chacon has been on the disabled list with a left leg hematoma since
May 21. Now, a rehabilitation start at least may be on the horizon.

"I know Gator [pitching coach Ron Guidry] has a plan for him,''
Yankees manager Joe Torre said before his team hosted the Royals at
Yankee Stadium on Saturday. "He'll play catch; throw off a short
mound. We'll get him ready to start and by the time that happens
we'll have to make a decision if he still needs to go out. We're
not sure about that yet.''

1 1/3 innings against Texas in his last start on May 16, yielding
seven earned runs on six hits.

Now, Chacon is anxious to pick up the pace, especially now that
he's able to get a full night of sleep.

"When I'd move or roll over I'd wake up,'' Chacon said.

Chacon said he's not worried about his arm, that it is his leg that
he'll need to get back in to baseball shape, but fielding his
position and running the bases, he said, are immediate concerns.

Posada update: Torre said that catcher Jorge Posada, on the bench
for a few days with a torn hamstring tendon, may be able to pinch-
hit by the time the Yankees wind up their current series against

"He wants to get a little more comfortable with the bat,'' Torre

Mussina's arm: Torre said that Mike Mussina developed a cramp in
his right forearm during his start against the Royals on Friday
night.

"It was gone today, in fact it was gone last night,'' Torre said.

and probably could have forced it, but we didn't want to go

Getting a chance: Torre said he plans to give Melky Cabrera a good
look in left field, even though the 21-year-old outfielder hasn't
played particularly well when stationed there.

Cabrera made a spectacular diving catch to take away at least a
double from the Royals' Doug Mientkiewicz on Friday night, but
later had Angel Berroa's three-run homer kick off the side of his
glove as he jumped to attempt the catch at the fence. The home run
broke a 4-4 tie and was the difference in the game.

"We are going to have to take a look at Melky in left field, even
though he has had a tougher time trying to deal with left field,''

The starter: Torre looks for spots to get reserve players into the
starting lineup on occasion. Since the Royals started left-hander

in place of Robinson Cano. Cairo has batted .333 against lefties
this year, while Cano has batted .261 with just one of his 10
doubles and three of his 15 RBIs.

the Royals.
