NY YANKEES 6, FLORIDA 5 ----------------------- BRONX, New York (Ticker) -- Chien-Ming Wang battled through seven innings to match his win total from last season and Alex Rodriguez collected three hits, as the New York Yankees held on for a 6-5 interleague victory over the Florida Marlins. Wang (8-3) made his major league debut in April 2005 when Jaret Wright suffered a shoulder injury. He filled in for Wright and although he missed two months with shoulder problems of his own, Wang managed to post an 8-5 record with a 4.02 ERA in 18 games. The righthander endured an inconsistent first two months despite a 5-2 record. But in his last three starts, Wang has allowed eight runs and 29 hits in 28 1/3 innings. "He's been great," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "Last year when he came up, to have the type of presence for a young inexperienced pitcher, he's been terrific for us. "The thing is, it gets to the point where you don't like to do this but you get to the point where you count on him. You never like to put that on any kid with the limited experience that he has. But the way he's pitched, you just feel that way." One of those starts was Sunday in Washington when Wang gave an overworked bullpen a day off by going the distance. Wang, however, lost that game when he allowed a two-run home run to Ryan Zimmerman in the ninth. "I give Wang a lot of credit," Torre said. "To go back out there tonight and battle through seven, I thought was great." On Friday, Wang's worst inning was the second when he allowed an RBI double to Josh Willingham and a two-run home run to Miguel Olivo that evened the contest at 3-3. But instead of getting rattled, Wang used an effective sinker, including to win for the third time in four starts. He allowed four runs and nine hits, struck out two, walked one and recorded 15 ground-ball outs. "I wanted to stay in," said Wang, who threw 55 of 85 pitches for strikes. "I could have gone longer. I thought my pitches were smooth." "He's been throwing the ball good," New York catcher Jorge Posada said. "The last four starts, he's been doing well. He's doing a lot of things well." Wang's recent outings have helped the Yankees immensely as their rotation entered the game with a 4.59 ERA due to inconsistent outings from Randy Johnson, Shawn Chacon and Wright. "He's tough, he's got the best stuff on this staff," Posada said. "When he's down in the zone, he keeps it coming." As for Rodriguez, he posted his sixth three-hit game of the season and first since May 31 at Detroit. He also produced his first three-hit game at home since May 26 vs. Kansas City and Friday was his first game at Yankee Stadium since going 6-for-35 on the club's last homestand. Rodriguez struck out in the first inning with runners on second and third. But in the fourth, he came through as he lined a 1-1 pitch from Florida starter Brian Moehler (5-6) up the middle, scoring Johnny Damon for a 4-3 lead. "Alex gets up there four or five times a game, and we'd like it to be wonderful all the time," Torre said. "But I thought he had three good at-bats. Hopefully we can build on that." Posada followed with an RBI single. Following an intentional walk to Robinson Cano, Rodriguez scored on Bernie Williams' sacrifice fly. Last Friday, Rodriguez went 1-for-5 in a 7-5 win at Washington. He had three strikeouts but afterwards he appeared to discover a mechanical flaw during a session with hitting coach Don Mattingly and since then Rodriguez is 9-for-21. Rodriguez's hit was not the game-winning hit as the Marlins scored a run on Miguel Cabrera's double play groundout in the sixth. The Marlins entered their first trip to Yankee Stadium since Game Six of the 2003 World Series with 20 wins in their last 27 games. But they did not resemble the club that had won nine of 10 as they committed three errors in the first inning and trailed 3-0. "Those are plays we should make," Florida first baseman Mike Jacobs said. "It could have been a lot better game." "We gave them six outs, maybe seven in the first inning," Marlins manager Joe Girardi said. Kyle Farnsworth allowed a run in the eighth and closer Mariano Rivera worked a perfect ninth for his 15th save in 17 opportunities. Moehler labored through four innings and was charged with six runs - four earned - and eight hits. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 203.203.161.31
