Wang validates Torre's trust

NEW YORK — Last week, Joe Torre told starter Chien-Ming Wang three very
important and extremely gratifying little words. A simple “I trust you” from
the Yankee manager to the Taiwanese right-hander translated into yet another
remarkable outing for Wang and an essential victory for the New York Yankees.
“It was important,” Wang said. “It made me feel better.”

We very well may have heard the last of that catchy phrase, “What’s Wang?”
in regards to the right-hander’s sub-par pitching performances. Instead, ask
yourself this, “What’s the difference between Wright and Wang?”

我們可能最後一次聽到了那個順口的"What's Wang (wrong)"來形容這名右投手不佳的表現

The answer is simple. One is able to pitch deep into games, the other simply is
not. While Jaret Wright is “the little engine that could” after the fifth
inning, due to the support of his manager and teammates, Wang ‘thinks he can”
go the distance each and every time he takes the mound.

Coming off an outstanding complete-game outing in Washington that had a
devastating outcome — the Nationals hit a walk-off home run in the ninth
 inning to give the Yankees and Wang a heartbreaking loss — Wang again gave New
York exactly what it needed — length. Looking back, if Wang didn’t pitch the
whole nine yards on June 18 in the Nation’s Capital, Shawn Chacon wouldn’t
have gotten the successful bail-out the following day, when four relievers
tossed an inning apiece after he was only able to contribute five innings of
work. Chacon will be handed the ball on Saturday, again following Wang, with
the same arsenal on call for backup.

又再次的給了牙機隊他們所需要的穩定的局數。 回頭再看如果不是王在六月18號投完整場
那麼 Shawn Chacon再接下來的一天被牛棚所拯救(譯者按:  作者記錯了吧..Chacon是在
王前一天投的...所以害小王得投整場XD)。 Chacon 在禮拜六會再度登板，並且還是有
完整的牛棚支援。

“He’s been great,” Torre said. “Last year when he came up, to have the type
of presence for a young, inexperienced pitcher, he’s been terrific for us. We
trusted him last Sunday with the ninth inning. He did great, but we didn’t do
very well. We took him back out there tonight and he just battled his way
through seven. I thought it was great.

"他的表現真的很好" Torre說到 "當他去年上來時他就有那缺少經驗的投手應該會缺少的
存在感 (? XD ..好像應該有更適合的名詞可是現在想不到)，他對我們的幫助真的很大，

“I didn’t really concern myself with that (last start). I talked to him just
about the fact that we trusted him and we’ll continue to trust him because of
what that game meant to us. Given the fact that we lost, he certainly wasn’t
at fault for that.”

"我沒有太在意上一次的先發。 我跟他說到我們相信他並且因為那場比賽而會持續的信任

In his 16th start this season, Wang impressed again, but more important, he
kept the overworked bullpen rested, pitching seven innings and allowing nine
hits and four runs – three in the second and one in the sixth. While the
economical 85 pitches were imposing, Wang, who wanted to come out for the eighth
inning, never allowed the leadoff batter to reach base in the five scoreless
innings he tossed. He retired the Marlins in order in three of them — the
first, fifth and seventh — bookend brilliancy.

 Posada said.

Wang ran into some trouble in the second — with two outs he allowed
back-to-back doubles followed by a three-run homer by Miguel Olivo — but shook
it off and pitched three straight scoreless thereafter, again showing maturity
and composure in his sophomore year as a Yankee. The Yankees’ offense
responded with a three-run fourth inning to break the tie and take a 6-3 lead
which led to the eventual 6-5 victory. New York has now won three straight
games and improved to 5-1 all-time against the Marlins at Yankee Stadium, a
team Wang has never faced in his career prior to Friday.

再度的在他大聯盟生涯的第二年展現出成熟與穩定。 洋基的打線在四局時回敬了三分
來打破僵局境而完成了6-5的勝利。 洋基現再有了三連勝並且在主場對馬林魚的紀錄是
5-1 (譯者按:可惜那個 1是在03 WS中....XDDDD) 。而這是王第一次面對該球隊。


“You have to pinch yourself and continue to try to treat him as a newcomer, as
a young kid that’s still learning, as opposed to a season pro like the way he’s
pitching,” Torre said. “It is unusual and I have to keep reminding myself to
understand that if he does make mistakes it’s because he just started doing
this stuff.”
