想要知道到底怎麼一回事.

如果Andrews檢查不出所以然來,Pavano 就糗大了.


The Yankees signed Pavano for four years and just under $40 million in
December, hoping he would resemble the pitcher who went 18-8 for the Florida
Marlins last season. But Pavano struggled with a diminished fastball in the
first half, and eventually stopped throwing between starts.

He is 4-6 with a 4.77 earned run average, and when the Yankees shut him down
on July 2, Pavano expected to miss only one start. Instead, he took a month
off before pitching in a minor league game.

Last Wednesday, after Pavano pitched six innings for Class A Tampa, the
pitching specialist Billy Connors pronounced him ready to start this week
against the Chicago White Sox. But Connors, a confidant of the principal
owner, George Steinbrenner, was too aggressive.

Cashman insisted that Pavano needed another minor league start, and scheduled
one for Monday with Class AA Trenton. But on Saturday, Pavano told Cashman
that his shoulder still hurt.

"Carl said his arm was bothering him more than usual," Cashman said. "I
talked to Carl and I said, 'Listen, we're going to send you to Andrews.' "

Pavano asked to pitch through the pain, but Cashman said he overruled him.
Torre has not spoken with Pavano since last weekend, but he said he should
have sensed that Pavano was not right.
