Sore thumb keeps Jeter out; Chacon on schedule for return

NEW YORK -- Hideki Matsui won't be back on the field with the Yankees for at
least three months, but the left fielder was back with his teammates on Monday
afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
雖然松井秀喜無法在最近三個月回到洋基的球場上，但是這位外野手在星期一下午回到
洋基球場與隊友同在。
Matsui spent the afternoon in the home clubhouse, and he plans to see a doctor
for a checkup during a visit to the hospital later this week.
松井在主場休息室花了一個下午的時間，並計畫之後在本星期去看醫生確認(傷勢)。
"Right now, the bone is still in the healing stage," said Matsui through his
interpreter. "I believe I will be coming back, but that's my mind speaking and
not my wrist. It will depend on how my arm heals."

Matsui suffered a fractured left wrist on May 11 while attempting a sliding
catch against the Red Sox. He underwent surgery the next day, and isn't
expected to begin rehabbing his wrist for another two or three weeks.
松井是在5/11對上紅襪的時候試圖滑行接球而折斷了左手腕，他隔天就動了手術，不過
手腕並沒有像預期般的在下一個二或三週就可以進行復健。
This is the first major injury of Matsui's career, so he is adapting to life
without baseball. He has been working out, keeping the rest of his body in
shape while his arm heals.

"It's the first time in my baseball career to be in this situation during the
season," Matsui said. "It's somewhat strange, but I've learned to accept it.
Right now, I'm working toward getting back and a full recovery."

Matsui has been watching all of his team's games, and he has been impressed
with the job Melky Cabrera has done filling in for him.

"What I miss is really just being on the field," Matsui said. "Putting the
uniform on and battling with my teammates."

Thumbs down: Derek Jeter was not in the lineup on Monday against the Red Sox,
as his bruised right thumb was still bothering him.

Jeter was hit by a Rodrigo Lopez pitch in the sixth inning of Sunday's game
against the Orioles, causing him to leave the game. X-rays were negative,
and he said Sunday night that he thought he would be able to play.
Jeter是在星期日對金鶯的比賽中，於第六局被Rodrigo Lopez的觸身球打中，而提前離

"Any time you get hit, it hurts for while," Jeter said. "That's not abnormal."

Jeter kept a compression wrap on his thumb overnight, then received treatment
when he arrived at Yankee Stadium on Monday. Before batting practice, he said

game, as he would be spending most his time in the trainer's room receiving
treatment on his thumb.

While Jeter sat out Monday's game, the Yankees had both Alex Rodriguez and

Chacon, who allowed three runs in five innings, threw 72 pitches in the game.

"Everything was good. I felt stronger," Chacon said. "I think I'm ready to
go."

threw," Torre said. "If we decide that it's enough, we'll look at Friday as

Aaron Small has not pitched well in Chacon's place, which may push the
Yankees to bring Chacon back for his next start.

Pitching coach Ron Guidry told Chacon he would pitch Friday, but Chacon is

on Tuesday, at which time Torre is expected to make the final decision.

With Matsui and Gary Sheffield out, Torre could use Cabrera behind Johnny

Cabrera has also hit leadoff three times this season. In the seven games at
the top of the order, Cabrera is 11-for-32 (.343) with a double, a triple

"It's possible," Torre said. "We may look at that. It's certainly a reasonable
