Hideki Matsui, rehabbing a broken left wrist suffered on May 11, continues to
work out vigorously with the intent of returning to the Yankees by the middle
of August.

Yesterday, as he has done after many day games in recent weeks, Matsui worked
on building his throwing arm in a most peculiar manner.

Standing in rightfield, Matsui made throws to his interpreter, Roger Kahlon,
who was about 75 feet away. Kahlon would throw it to the team's Japanese media
relations liaison Isao Hirooka - about halfway to Matsui - and he would roll it
back to Matsui.



Moving up

Torre decided to go with Jaret Wright Sunday night against the Mets instead of
Shawn Chacon, saying he wanted to reward Wright, who has pitched well recently.

"We do what we feel is the best thing for the team,"Torre said. "Taking nothing
away from Chac,but right now it just looks like Jaret is much closer to getting
there."

Wright has allowed one run in 11 innings in his last two starts.Chacon has given
up 11 earned runs, 17 hits and seven walks in 14 1/3 innings since leaving the
disabled list.
