Roster move: When the Yankees activated disabled right-hander Shawn Chacon
to start against the A's at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, they designated veteran
right-hander Scott Erickson for assignment.

Torre said Erickson, who made nine appearances and had a 7.94 ERA with 12 hits
and 10 earned runs on his ledger in 11 1/3 innings, was cut loose because the
Yankees wanted to keep left-hander Matt Smith, 26, around.
Toree 說到他將Erickson 放走的主因是因為他們希望讓Matt Smith留在大聯盟隊伍中。
The manager liked the way Smith, who's on his second stint with the Major
League club this season, handled some of Boston's better hitters during one
appearance last week. Smith hasn't given up a run in five appearances.
教練團很欣賞Matt Smith 之前對上Boston的表現。
"That was a test," Torre said of the Boston outing. "We brought him into that
game and I said to Gator (pitching coach Ron Guidry), 'Let's see what he looks
like through the middle of the order.' It wasn't if they got hits or not. It
was how his approach was; if he was going to be afraid to pitch to them and I
didn't see that."
他們之前將他放上去對付波士頓的中心打者時特別注意他是否會閃躲，而他並沒有。
