標題[新聞] Yanks get close look at Soriano

WASHINGTON -- Alfonso Soriano says he feels comfortable playing left field in
his home ballpark. The question now is, how long will he be calling RFK
Stadium home?
Soriano's name seems to be mentioned in every trade rumor out there,
including several tying him to the Yankees, the team with which he came up
with before being traded in February 2004 for Alex Rodriguez.
With Gary Sheffield and Hideki Matsui out until September and Soriano set
to become a free agent this winter, it appears to be a good fit for the
30-year-old to return to the Bronx for the remainder of the season.
"Sometimes my friends call me when they see something on the computer or in
the paper, but I'm not listening," Soriano said of the constant rumors.
"If it happens, it happens."
Soriano still maintains an apartment in Fort Lee, N.J., where he spends
some time during the offseason. He has lost touch with his former New York
teammates, but said he was open to the idea of playing for the Yankees --
or any other team, including the Nationals, for that matter.
"It's a little hard, especially this year," he said. "If [the Nationals]
don't sign me, they may want to trade me so they don't let me go without
getting something. I'm not putting it in my mind; I'm coming here every day
to play the game."
Soriano, who played second base for the past five years before making the
move to left field this spring, said he hasn't thought about whether he
wants to return to the infield next year.
"He loves playing baseball," said Joe Torre, who managed Soriano for three
seasons. "He goes out there every single day; he's a bulldog. He knows how
to play the game, he has great instincts, and while he may not be as
comfortable in the outfield as he is in the infield, he's certainly capable."
Wherever he ends up next year, Soriano will surely request a no-trade
clause in his new contract. After being traded twice in the past two years,
who could blame him?
"I like it here; I like my teammates, we're a good, young ballclub,
" he said. "But I liked the Yankees and they traded me to Texas, and I liked
Texas and they traded me here. ... For the past six years, my name is always
in trade talks. I'm a little tired of it."
