If the Yankees are to reach the postseason for the 12th straight year, they're
going to have to earn it over the next 2 1/2 months. They have 70 games
remaining, with 47 of those games coming against division opponents.

如果洋基想要連續第12年打進季後賽的話，那麼接下來2個半月的比賽即是關鍵。
他們還有70場比賽要打，其中有47場比賽要對上美聯東區的球隊。

The majority of these games are in August and September, which is a benefit
at that time of the season; it means when they go on the road, they're not
making long trips and staying within the Eastern Time Zone, which keeps guys
fresher for the stretch run. They also make the pennant races that much more
interesting.

對上美東球隊的比賽大多數在八月和九月，是個絕佳時刻。因為它代表當洋基打客場時，

Their toughest trip is in mid-August, where they play five games in four days
at Fenway Park, and then go out to the West Coast to play the Mariners and
Angels. Eleven games in 10 days spanning three time zones is a monster. They'll
do well to win six or seven of those games.

But right now, the Yankees are playing well. Their top three pitchers are
rolling. Randy Johnson had a strong second half last year and he's giving all
indications that's going to be the case again. He took a hard-luck loss against
the Mariners, but he had his first double-digit strikeout game of the season,
pitched eight innings, and his last pitch was 95 miles per hour. Chien-Ming
Wang has been solid, and Mike Mussina is tied for the league lead in wins.
Who knows what Sidney Ponson will give them? He could be the key to this
whole thing. He could be this year's Aaron Small — I'm not saying he's going
to go 10-0, but he's pitched well in the past.

情勢分析

Toronto Blue Jays (13 games remaining)
The Yankees have won the season series in all but two of the last 10 seasons,
but the Blue Jays have not made it easy for them. The Blue Jays are a
much-improved team: They lead the major leagues in batting average, they have
a healthy Roy Halladay, and they have a legitimate closer in B.J. Ryan.
The key to the Blue Jays is their starting pitching after Halladay.
A.J. Burnett has been so-so since coming back from his injury, Ted Lilly leads
the league in pitches per inning; he's a guy the Yankees can get to.
Defensively, they're shaky up the middle and have shifted a number of times.
trading second baseman Orlando Hudson really hurt them in this respect.
The Blue Jays are contending for their first playoff spot in 13 years.
They have proven that they can play well against the Red Sox, winning seven of
the 11 meetings thus far, but if the pattern holds true and the Wild Card comes
out of the central, they're going to have to beat the Yankees. But the Yankees
have won at least six games at Rogers Centre in four of the last five years —
the matchup is going to be very interesting.
Both teams have injuries at key positions: the Jays have Alex Rios,
Gustavo Chacin, and Troy Glaus. The Yankees obviously, are without Hideki
Matsui, Gary Sheffield and Robinson Cano. So the teams, on paper, are pretty
even.

多倫多藍鳥 (扣除掉今天的比賽還有12場對戰)
雖然洋基在過去10個球季中幾乎都佔上風 (除了2個球季之外)，但藍鳥還是不好惹的。

就防守而言，藍鳥的二壘蠻抖的，也換了不少人去守，把Hudson交易出去確實對他們
造成不小的傷害。藍鳥仍在尋求這13年內的第一張季後賽門票，他們在與紅襪的11場比賽
贏了7場，已證明了他們有能力與之抗衡。但就目前的情勢來看，倘若外卡來自於美中，
那麼藍鳥勢必要幹掉洋基隊。但洋基過去在Roger Centre也打的很好耶...這個對戰組合
將會非常的刺激。
兩隊都有重要的壘手受傷，藍鳥是Alex Rios、Gustavo Chacin、以及Troy Glaus(今天有
出賽)。而洋基隊，就是松井、老薛、Cano。所以這兩隊就目前來看，算是差不多啦。

Baltimore Orioles (13 games remaining)
The Yankees play well against the Orioles, who are known known for their
second-half fades. The Orioles have a big offense, though, with Miguel Tejada
leading the way. In the previous six games, the Yankees have gotten him out
three straight at-bats only once. In fact, they've only gotten him out 10
times; he's batting .615 (16-for-26), with a home run and six RBIs.
Their pitching staff is not good. Outside of left-hander Erik Bedard, their
pitching staff has not been good. Kris Benson has given the Yankees problems
the past two years, but he's starting to fade.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays (10 games remaining)
The Yankees have played the Devil Rays as if they remembered what the Rays did
to them last year. They've won six of the first eight, and should have won
seven. They seem determined to not have the Devil Rays undermine their goal of
winning the division this year.
There isn't anyone on that staff that can scare them outside of Scott Kazmir,
and the Yankees have beaten him twice. Meanwhile, Kazmir is 3-1 against the
Red Sox.

坦帕灣魔鬼魚 (還有10場對戰)
洋基記取了去年魔鬼魚給的教訓，他們在頭8場已贏了6場，其實應該要贏7場。
洋基似乎鐵了心，決心不讓魔鬼魚成為闖進季後賽的絆腳石。但除了Scott Kazmir之外，
魔鬼魚沒有什麼投手可以壓制住洋基，而洋基還打敗過Kazmir兩次。但Kazmir對紅襪
是3勝1負。

Boston Red Sox (9 games remaining)
If you remember back to last year, these two teams ended up tied, but the
Yankees won the division by virtue of winning the head-to-head series.
Right now, they're 5-5, so every one of those games is going to be important.
Whoever wins the season series will likely win the division. The Yankees have
to come out of the five-game series at Fenway (Aug. 18-21) with three wins to
give themselves a chance. The objective is to gain ground.
Because the Yankees have won eight straight division titles, their opponents
feel that the Yankees are the team to beat in order to get to the playoffs.
The Yankees can make a statement by continuing to win in the AL East. The
Orioles and Devil Rays will play hard, but it's just a matter of can they win.
From a Yankee standpoint, if Chicago and Detroit keep winning in the Central,
that places a greater deal of importance on these divisional games. They've
played well so far, and they'll have to keep that up. Forty-five to 50 wins
in the division should be enough.

波士頓紅襪隊 (還有9場對戰)
假如你記得去年的話，這兩支球隊總戰績竟是相同，但洋基還是贏得分區冠軍的頭銜。
現在，他們又扯平了(5勝5負)，所以之後每場對戰都相當重要。誰在對戰取得上風，
就很有可能會是分區冠軍。洋基在八月中對紅襪的那五場比賽必須勝出，才有機會角逐
分區冠軍。洋基贏了連續八年的分區冠軍，所以每支球隊都視洋基為晉級季後賽的頭號
敵人。洋基仍有機會能夠宣稱他們連續第九年拿到美東冠軍，金鶯和魔鬼魚也打的很賣
力，但事實上就是贏不了比賽。就洋基的立場來看，如果白襪和老虎在美中繼續邱下去，
將會嚴重的影響美東之間的勝負關係。白襪和老虎目前都打的不錯，照這樣下去，再贏
個45~50場比賽應該就夠了。
