Scouting Report:
The only Tigers starter without a winning record this season was actually
Detroit's strongest starter over the home stretch. Until last Wednesday's
loss to the Blue Jays, Robertson (13-13, 3.84 ERA) had thrown at least six
innings with two runs or less allowed in six of his previous seven outings.
Yet he won just twice over that stretch in large part due to lack of run
support. One of those was a 2-0 loss at Yankee Stadium August 30, when a
Craig Wilson homer and a Jason Giambi sacrifice fly proved to be
his downfall. Like that game, he'll be opposing Chien-Ming Wang.

Wang (19-6, 3.63 ERA) emerged as the Yankees' ace this season, tying
Minnesota's Johan Santana for the Major League lead with 19 victories.
Opposing hitters have described Wang's trademark sinker as being like a
bowling ball, as the mid-90s pitch drops more than a foot as it crosses the
plate. The right-hander has had great success pitching in the Bronx this
season, going 11-3 with a 3.03 ERA in 17 starts at Yankee Stadium. In his one
postseason start last fall, Wang allowed four runs -- one earned --
over 6 2/3 innings in the Yankees' Game 2 loss to the Angels.
