As much as George Steinbrenner wishes the World Baseball Classic wouldn't
include his Yankees, The Boss must finally deal with reality today.

就算說不想要經典賽有他的洋基球員...到今天老闆最後也沒辦法實現...

After Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Damon and Derek Jeter are removed from today's
spring-training opener, they will get dressed, pack their bags and head for
the airport. The next time the Yankees will see their three biggest stars
may be three weeks from now.

A-Rod...Damon...Jeter今天起不在春訓名單...他們將要換球衣...背起包包到機場...
下次在洋基看到他們...要等到三個星期以後了...

(這裡已經把美國想到去打冠軍賽了...^^?)

Asked yesterday how he feels about that, Steinbrenner said, "Not good." But
he apparently realizes he's complained enough, saying, "I'm not going to say
any more."

昨天問老闆有什麼感覺...老闆說"不好"
但他感覺他已經抱怨夠多...又說"我不再說任何話了"

So all Steinbrenner can do now is hope that none of his five players involved
in the event get hurt, even though Rodriguez said yesterday he thinks it's
"inevitable" some team's player will get injured during the tournament, which
begins today in Tokyo and runs through March 20.

老闆現在能做的...就是祈禱五個球員不要受傷...就算A-Rod昨天說這是"不可避免"...
從今天開打到3月20號...還是會有球員都會在比賽受傷...

(身價不一樣...不知道敢不敢像金東柱跟張泰山...奮不顧身撲一壘...^^?)

"It's baseball, it's sports. You just hope that it's not serious and it
doesn't have a big part in the outcome of their season," Rodriguez said.
"But somebody will get hurt."

A-Rod說"這是棒球...這就是運動...你雖然想要經典賽不要那麼嚴肅跟影響球季賽...
但難免還是會有球員受傷的..."

In addition to Rodriguez, Jeter and Damon, Bernie Williams will play for
Puerto Rico and Al Leiter was selected yesterday as an injury replacement
for the United States.

除了A-Rod...Jeter...Damon以外...Bernie要代表波多黎各...
Leiter最後也因為替換受傷球員被選到加入美國隊...

While saying it was "strange" to think about his players leaving camp on the
first day of the exhibition season, manager Joe Torre doesn't hold it against
them. "The players have a certain obligation to follow in their heart what
they should do," he said.

Toree說這感覺很奇怪...想到自己的球員在熱身時候離開春訓...但他不會反對他們...
Torre說"球員可以體會到有義務來的時候...他們就必須應該做些事情..."

Rodriguez, Damon and Jeter said they are excited about the event, though
none of them knows what to expect once they arrive in Phoenix tonight. Well,
except for Damon, who gets to see his favorite band, Sevendust, tonight in
Arizona.

A-Rod...Damon...Jeter說他們為這件事興奮...除了Damon要去看他愛的樂團表演...
沒有人知道到了鳳凰城...會被安排要做些什麼...

On the field, Damon expects the intensity level to be "close to the
postseason," but whether the players are ready mentally and physically for
that kind of baseball at a time when they are used to playing four innings a
day in exhibitions remains to be seen.

在場上...Damon期盼他的身手接近球季時候的...但不管球員精神上有沒有準備好...
但他們現在仍然還是習慣在一天打四局的比賽中...

"I'm not ready yet," Rodriguez said. "I'd like another week or 10 days to at
least get game-ready. But the ball goes up in four days and we're going to
have to be ready."

A-Rod說"我還沒準備好...我需要至少一個星期到10天才會準備好比賽...
但現在只剩下4天就要進行比賽了..."

"Physically I'm ready," Jeter said, "but when it comes to being game-ready
in terms of timing and stuff like that, obviously the more you play the
better you'll be."

Jeter說"我完全準備好了...但當比賽來的時候我不知道時間跟感覺會不會恢復...
不過會盡全力做到最好..."

"The great thing that's going to come out of this is, every game will be
important," Damon said. "Spring training, you can go through the motions.
Spring training is long, anyway. That's another reason why I think this is
going to be good."

Damon說"對我來說最大的好處就是每場比賽都很重要...在春訓是慢慢調整節奏...
春訓時間是長的...這就是我認為這樣對我比較好的原因..."

But Rodriguez said it's not that easy leaving the teammates with whom you're
going to spend the next seven months, and to leave the place where you're
used to working out.

但是A-Rod說離開你習慣七個月的隊友...並且離開你習慣的場地...這是不容易的...

"It's kind of a melancholy feel leaving so soon," Rodriguez said. "I guess
once we get there it's going to be pretty exciting, but for me spring
training is such an intricate part of what I do ... It's going to be
interesting to see how I get my work done there."

A-Rod說"有點憂鬱的感覺會很快離開的...我猜到那邊每場比賽都扣人心弦...
對我來說春訓示很複雜的一部分...看我怎麼在比賽時候完成這些工作應該會很有趣"

When Buck Martinez, the U.S. manager, dropped by Legends Field last week,
Rodriguez said he made a point of asking him about workouts.

美國教練Buck Martinez上星期來到Legends Field...他對A-Rod提出鍛鍊的意見...

"He assured me we're going to have a lot of guys to throw BP, hit ground
balls ... a few conditioning guys," Rodriguez said. "He assured me that
whatever we need he's going to provide for us. He's going to make sure we
have plenty of work."

A-Rod說"他保證我們會有很多人餵球打擊...滾地球守備練習...幾個已經適應的人...
他還保證會提供我們所需要的份量...他也確定我們會跟著有很大的訓練..."

As for Damon, he's not worried about missing three weeks with his new
teammates, and he doesn't think his absence will mean that he will take
longer than other players to get used to what comes with playing for the
Yankees. "The thing with me, I can mix anywhere, whether I am here in Tampa
or out there with Team U.S.," he said. "These guys have made me feel very
comfortable here already."

至於Damon...他不擔心要離開隊友三個星期的事情...他也不認為他在訓練時候缺席...
會比其他人更需要時間來習慣...尤其是當一個洋基人...Damon說"什麼樣的事情...
就有什麼樣辦法對付...不管我在坦帕練習還在國家隊...現在這群人都讓我愉悅..."



就看作美國可以打到冠軍賽好了...賽程頂多也才8場...
3/7...3/8...3/10...3/12...3/14...3/16...3/18...3/20
每個球隊球員這麼多...又有保護的限制...加上美國隊教練提出來的保證...
其實去美國隊可以得到的訓練量是夠的...
今年打完了...也可以統計一下有打經典賽跟沒打經典賽的明星...跟前一年的成績...
什麼樣的比賽會讓球星進步...至少現在看到要打跟不打佔了差不多一半一半...
