NEW YORK -- When Alex Rodriguez came to the plate with two on and none out in
the sixth inning, the Yankees trailed by four runs. A big hit by A-Rod would
cut the lead and build some momentum for New York, which was looking to
bounce back after a tough loss and a long night of traveling.

當Arod在第六局無人出局、兩人在壘站上打擊區時，那時洋基還落後四分。此時若來一支
大支的便能開啟洋基反攻的契機，並縮短比數差距。

A-Rod laced Joe Saunders' 1-1 pitch to center field, causing the sellout
Yankee Stadium crowd to erupt. Rodriguez knew better; after all, Chone
Figgins was in center field.

Arod面對Saunders，在1好1壞下打出中間方向高飛球，Aord和球迷都認為這會是一支
大支的，但被中外野手Chone Figgins硬生生沒收。

"I knew right when I hit it that he was going to catch it," Rodriguez said.
"I knew Figgins was out there, and he's always making some kind of heroic
play."

Arod說:"我打出去後看到他準備接殺就知道不妙，而且他也常常出現一些美技守備。

Rodriguez was right. Figgins made the play, Saunders followed by inducing an
inning-ending double play off the bat of Jason Giambi and the Angels went on
to capture a 7-4 win in the first of four games between the two teams this
weekend in the Bronx.

Arod說的沒錯，Figgins出現了又一次的美技，之後Saunders讓Giambi打出雙殺結束了
這局，而最終天使隊也以7比4在四連戰中拔得頭籌。

"Figgins made the play of the game. Who knows what that inning turns into,
but he stopped it right there," manager Joe Torre said. "That was the
game-saver; it could have turned the game in our favor at that point."

最關鍵的一個play。"

That the Angels found a way to beat the Yankees should be no surprise; in the
Torre era, Los Angeles is now 52-49 in the regular season against New York,
making the Halos the only team in the American League with a winning record
against the Yankees.

天使壓著洋基打並不是什麼鮮事，在Torre掌兵的幾年間，天使季賽碰上洋基的成績為
52勝49負，而天使也是美聯唯一一支對洋基佔上風的球隊。

"They have a good solid lineup," Torre said. "We know we have our hands full."

Saunders (4-0) held the Bombers to three runs over six-plus innings, while
Maicer Izturis went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, dealing the Yanks
their third loss in the past four games.

Saunders(4勝0負)投了6局，僅讓洋基攻得3分，再加上Maicer Izturis5個打數3支安打，
包括1支全壘打以及3分打點的表現，讓洋基輸掉了最近四場中的第三場。

Saunders added his name to a list of young pitchers that have stifled the
Yankees when facing them for the first time this season. He joins the likes
of Jeremy Sowers, Cole Hamels, David Pauley, Horacio Ramirez, Scott Baker,
Anibal Sanchez and Mike O'Connor.

洋基本季面隊新秀投手都打不好，面對菜鳥Saunders也是如此。Saunders就和過去幾位

"You base hitting on your knowledge of somebody from facing them," Torre
said. "There are scouting reports and videos, but standing 60 feet away is
probably the best way to figure it out."

Cory Lidle, pitching on eight days' rest, took his first loss in pinstripes,
allowing three runs on four hits in four innings. Lidle (9-8) was also
battling the effects of a stomach bug, but he felt he was well enough to take
the ball.

Garret Anderson homered in the second to give the Angels a 1-0 lead, while
Izturis made it a three-run game with a two-run blast off Lidle in the third.
Lidle left after four innings and 79 pitches.

"I just felt fatigued out there, like I didn't have much in the tank
tonight," Lidle said. "It was pretty much a battle from the first pitch. I
went out there and didn't give up, I didn't lie down. I gave it my all for
those four innings."

Saunders held the Yankees hitless through the first 3 2/3 innings before
Rodriguez singled in the fourth. After A-Rod moved to second on a wild pitch,
Giambi singled him in, putting New York on the board with its first run.

上到二壘，Giambi打出安打讓Arod回來得到第一分。

Orlando Cabrera doubled in two runs in the fifth against Sidney Ponson, who
came in for Lidle, to make it a 5-1 game. Izturis added an RBI single in the
seventh, tying a career high with three RBIs. Ponson allowed three runs in
three innings of relief, his first outing since Aug. 3.

fairness to him, he hasn't been out there."

New York tried to mount a rally in the sixth, as Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu
opened the frame with singles, bringing A-Rod to the plate. That's when
Figgins made his momentum-turning catch, and Saunders handled the rest with
the double-play ball.

"You could see the poise he had out there; Yankee Stadium didn't get to him,"

"Figgy made a great defensive play," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "That
is a huge effort, because we got the double play right after it and that

The Yankees cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh on Sal Fasano's
two-run double, but the rally was cut short when Fasano was doubled off
second after Nick Green popped up a bunt to reliever Scot Shields, who had
taken over for Saunders.

"Fasano got us back where we had a chance to get back in the game," Torre
said. "We just couldn't hold it."

Vladimir Guerrero launched a solo shot off Yankees reliever Jose Veras in the
eighth to bump the lead to four runs, but Rodriguez countered with one of his
own against Shields. The homer was the 453rd of Rodriguez's career, tying
teammate Gary Sheffield for 30th place on the all-time list.

Guerrero在第八局從Veras手中打出陽春全壘打，讓比數拉開到4分，但八局下Arod也從

Francisco Rodriguez got the final four outs to close out the game, notching
his 29th save of the season.

"They give us trouble," A-Rod said of the Angels. "They're a National
League-style team, they do a lot of fundamental things well and keep the
pressure on you."
