This guy is going to cause a lot of confusion. This is Dee Brown is
no relation to the other Dee Brown, the former Royals prospect. The
problem is that they are somewhat similar as player, with similar
strengths and weaknesses. We will call this version Dee Brown Mark
Π. He was drafted in the 10th round in 2005 from the University
of Centra Florida. Mark Π is a very good athlete with strong natural
tools, including power and speed. But his strike zone judgement is
terrible, and while he has done well in A-ball so far, I think it is
likely that Double-A pitching will expose the holes in his swing.
Already 24 years old, he doesn't have a lot of time to waste, and
will need a quick start in '07 to stay on the prospect charts.Keep
track in his plate discipline, he will need to show improvement in
that area if he has any hope of turning his tools into skills.

Kory Casto made a successful Double-A transition last year, maintain-
ing his power production and strong plate discipline in his first
look at advanced pitching. He has a sound swing that produces power
to all fields. His pitching recognition is very strong, to the point
that some scouts worry that he might be too patienct. His numbers for
Harrisburg were solid: OPS +20 percent, SEC +55 percent. His numbers
in '05 were +22 and +52 respectively, so he didn't slip at all despite
the boost in competition. His MLE rateds him as just a .250ish hitter
at the major league level right now, albeit with enough power and
walks to be useful. Casto is a decent third baseman, but the presence
of ryan Zimmerman in the Nationals lineup means he doesn't have a place
to play at the hot corner. He has seen some action in the outfield,
where his range is limited but his strong arm is an asset. Casto is
not young as prospects go, which limits his prjection on potential,
but I think he will have a good career if they give a chance. Grade B.
