Nets make the Best of it
Looking for insurance in case Jason Kidd misses more time than expected,
the Nets signed point guard Travis Best yesterday.
Nets CEO Rod Thorn said Best, who agreed to a partially guaranteed one-year
deal after averaging 2.8 points for Dallas last season, must pass a physical
but is expected to be with the team on Monday for media day.
Best will compete against Jacque Vaughn and Zoran Planinic to see who will
start in place of Kidd while the franchise star recovers from knee surgery.
Kidd could miss all of training camp and perhaps some games early in the
season.
As the Nets added the 32-year-old Best, their former guard Lucious Harris
found a new team. Harris, whom the Nets bought out of his contract for
$1 million last month, signed with the Cavaliers yesterday.
The 33-year-old Harris joins Kenyon Martin, Kerry Kittles, Rodney Rogers and
Tamar Slay as Nets from last season's roster now on another team. The Nets
saved $1.5 million by buying out the 6-5 guard from the final year of his
contract. Having traded Kittles to the Clippers in July for a second-round
pick and a trade exception, the Nets' shooting guards are now Ron Mercer and
Rodney Buford.

What is love? Love is love every player as if this is his last
game in New Jersey Nets.
