Dyer wises up to help kids Mar 2 2007 By Luke Edwards, The Journal Dyer was often referred to as the leader of the United `Brat Pack' under former manager Sir Bobby Robson, but he has grown into a key and far more mature figure under Glenn Roeder. *Brat Pack在這裡應該不是指後起之秀吧?XD*) The England international has admitted he feared for his future in the game during an 18-month injury nightmare with his hamstrings and was forced to re-evaluate his career as he wondered if he would ever play for the club again. And it seems the period of self-analysis had a positive effect, with Dyer relishing his status as one of the squad's senior players. "I'm enjoying being one of the senior players and I feel it's showing in my performances," said Dyer, who missed the 1-0 defeat at Wigan Athletic with flu. (Dyer很高興可以幫助那些年輕的球員,而這也可以展現他的本事) "I've always been vocal and when the likes of Lomana LuaLua, Jermaine Jenas and Titus Bramble were here, I always did my best to help them, they were close friends of mine. (當LuaLua、JJ等人還在的時候,Dyer就盡他可能的幫助他們。這些人都是Dyer很親近的 好朋友......*真希望巴布人也變成過去式.....*) "But this is different, I'm one of the older players, especially when we've had to play with so many kids in the side because of the injuries and it's up to me to help them through games. 而幫助他們融入比賽一切取決Dyer自己) "I've always been pretty vocal on the pitch and I try to look out for them. I voice my opinions, I've done that for a number of years, but even more so when you look at how young our back four has been. I hope the lads feel I'm helping them. (Dyer表示他總是直言不諱的表達自己的意見,而他希望這些年輕人覺得自己是有幫助 到他們的。) "I'm thriving on it, I like the responsibility, it's very rewarding when you see the team doing so well against the odds and it has added a new dimension to my game at Newcastle." (Dyer表示他喜歡現在這樣,喜歡這樣的責任。而這也成為他很大的動力。) Dyer's return from injury saw the Magpies drag themselves out of the bottom three and Ruud Gullit's £6m signing believes a European challenge remains a realistic objective. (Dyer的回歸將我們從降級區拉了出來,而他現在仍然相信,歐洲席位仍是一個可行 的目標。) The former Ipswich Town star has been delighted at the way a small squad has coped with injuries to key players this season and, although there was not the number of anticipated new arrivals in the January transfer window, Dyer has refused to concede defeat in the pursuit of an Uefa Cup place in the Premiership. The defeat at Wigan leaves the Magpies seven points adrift of sixth-placed Reading, but Dyer feels the fixture list has been kind to them in the run-in. He said: "I can't wait until we get some of the injured players back because I honestly believe, with the games we've got coming up, we can go on a winning run and put ourselves into a great position in the league. "It's one stage at a time for us. We were in the bottom two at one stage, so we had to get out of that first. The next challenge was getting into the top half of the table, which we've almost done and then we can start thinking about qualifying for Europe. We've got a good run of games and if we can win those I think we can definitely start thinking about qualifying for Europe. We can only take it one game at a time, but it's not out of the question."
