Potters make late Ameobi signing
Stoke City have signed former England Under-21 striker Shola Ameobi on
loan from Newcastle United.
The 26-year-old has made over 100 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 46
goals, but has featured just twice under manager Kevin Keegan.
Potters boss Tony Pulis told BBC Radio Stoke: "We need to show everyone
that we are giving promotion our best shot."
Ameobi is expected to make his debut for the Potters against Sheffield
Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday.
"If you fail by not having a go, then I can understand why people would be
frustrated," said Pulis. "The chairman understands this and has been
brilliant."
The Championship table-toppers are also believed to be interested in
signing Derby County's Scottish international midfielder Stephen Pearson, 25.
Pearson was in the Derby team that won promotion to the Premier League
last May, scoring the winning goal against West Bromwich Albion in the
Championship play-off final at Wembley.
