Ex-Toon midfielder Hugo Viana is enjoying a new lease of life at Spanish
club Valencia.
His club is one of four chasing the Spanish title, including Barcelona,
Real Madrid and Sevilla. And last night Valencia progressed to the quarter
finals of the Champions League ... but there were amazing scenes as players
battled on the pitch and in the tunnel.
UEFA have opened an investigation into the conduct of both Valencia and
Internazionale following the post-match brawl.
Valencia substitute David Navarro sparked the melee after punching Inter's
Nicolas Burdisso - breaking the Argentinian's nose in the process - with
players from both teams (including Viana) quickly becoming involved.

The disruption continued in the tunnel with Inter players attempting to
get into the Valencia dressing room to confront Navarro.

A UEFA spokesman said: "An investigation has been opened for the incidents
which happened last night against both clubs.
"A decision is expected at the next meeting of the UEFA disciplinary body
on March 22nd."
The second leg of the last-16 tie finished goalless with Valencia
progressing on away goals following the 2-2 draw at the San Siro on February
21.
Back to Viana ... why do players leave our club and turn into world class
players, when they produce NOTHING at St James' Park. Viana is just one of
many. Look no further than Jon Dahl Tomasson. He couldn't hit a cow's arse with
a banjo when he was at Newcastle, but he has won just about everything in the
game since he left.

Portuguese international, joined Newcastle for ￡8.5m when only 19. Usually
plays on the left of midfield but says he prefers central midfield. Described
by Bobby Robson: "He will become a legend". Sadly it wasn't with Newcastle.
Went back to Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan in 2004. And left the club
in a ridiculous cut price deal in 2005.
2. 1997/98 J.D.Tomasson 26/8 4
Jon Dahl signed from SC Heerenveen in Holland for ￡2.2m having topped the
Dutch goalscoring league in 1998/99. Was highly rated and scored twice in a
pre-season friendly in Ireland when he first signed and looked a great buy.
But he never adapted to the Premiership and struggled straight away. Said he
was played out of position, but he never looked sharp wherever he played.
Danish international who returned to Dutch football. Then helped Denmark win
the European Championship and was a huge star in Italian football with Milan.
