Old Boy Rammy Rooting For Geordies
By Craig Hope
Toon old boy Peter Ramage will be rooting for Newcastle United this
weekend when his former team-mates face Aston Villa in the match which will
determine their top-flight destiny.
The 25-year-old left St.James' Park for Queens Park Rangers at the end of
last season after more than 10 years at his boyhood club.
But Ramage, who still refers to the Magpies as 'we', has kept bang up to
date with events on Tyneside from his new capital base and has jumped at any
opportunity to join the Toon Army and cheer on the Geordies.
And the whole-hearted defender admits he's quietly conifident that Alan
Shearer's men can perform a final-day escape act.
"If I'm totally honest, I'm quietly confident, just because Hull have got
Manchester United and they're unbelievable, regardless of which side Sir Alex
picks," said Peter.
"I went to the Newcastle-Fulham match on Saturday, as well as the
Middlesbrough game a week or so ago, and I've seen enough of Newcastle to say
they'll just about survive.
"It was a bit 'after the lord mayor's show' on Saturday to be perfectly
honest, but we created chances and had a dodgy goal disallowed, so it could
have been so different.
"We didn't get the rub of the green, but it's all set up nicely for
Sunday now."
Ramage will be among the bright lights of Las Vegas as part of an
end-of-season trip when United do battle with Villa, but the Ashington-born
star will be ignoring the lure of the roulette and blackjack in favour of a
television set.
"I'll find a TV to watch it on even if it's the last thing I do,"
he added.
"If I wasn't on holiday I'd be at Villa Park, but the rest of the lads
going away know I'm mad about watching it, so I'm sure we'll find somewhere
to see it, whether it's a casino or elsewhere!"
