The Canadian defender was offered a newcontract to stay on in Newcastle, but
apparently he didn’t much likethe terms, plus he wanted first team football
next season, and couldn’tbe guaranteed that at Newcastle next season.
David’s contract runs out at Newcastle today so he would be off theNewcastle
wage bill, whether he hooked up with Burnley or not.
Of course the last time he was in a Newcastle shirt was when he
was sent off in the dyingminutes of our last game at Villa Park, where a 1-0
defeat saw the siderelegated.
David is a solid player and never let the Newcastle side down whenhe played,
and he also showed the guts and spirit lacking in so manyNewcastle players
last season.
And Edgar will forever be remembered when he scored the equalizinggoal in a
2-2 with Manchester United on January 1st. 2007 at St. James’Park.
Playing left back in that game, he broke through on the left in the
second half, to hit an unstoppable 30 yard low shot past
goalkeeper Edwin vander Saar. A fantastic goal that shocked everybody,
including David.
Edgar made 23 appearances for Newcastle and the club will beentitled to
compensation for Edgar, both because of his age and thathe came through the
club’s Academy since the age of 14.
He will be a very good signing for Burnley, and we wish David all the best
for the future.
