Lovenkrands Told He’s Not Wanted By Newcastle July 1st, 2009 by Ed Harrison · 15 CommentsIt looks like Newcastle United have already told Peter Lovenkrands they don’t want to offer him a new contract at the club. There are reports today that Peter received a letter from the club telling him not to bother reporting back for pre-season training today at the Benton training headquarters. A source close to Peter said: “Peter got a letter telling him not to come back, and he was devastated, ” “While being relegated was a painful experience for Peter, he loved playing for Newcastle United’s fans, and was hoping to talk about a new deal.” “Now he knows he will be playing his football elsewhere next season, unless something dramatic happens at St James’ Park.” With players reporting back today this news had to be reported, since Peter will not be at Benton today, and questions obviously would have been asked about his absence. And Wigan Athletic are now now favourites to sign ther striker, who we had hoped would be retained by Newcastle. The source continued: “Peter was keen to stay on and help fight for the cause.” “Instead he received a letter telling him not to bother turning up for the first day of pre-season training today.” “He is devastated and upset by this.” “Despite the pain of relegation he wanted to talk about a new deal and put some wrongs right from last season.” “You would have thought that was the sort of player Newcastle needed this season, but clearly they have other ideas.” There’s not too much class in telling a player (who had given his all for the club this year) by mail, that he’s not wanted is there? This sounds like the work of Derek Llambias, who also put the club up for sale via email, as we well remember a few weeks ago. We assume if this is news to Shearer and he still wants the player he will contact him, so if nothing happens we have to assume Alan knew about this, or just doesn’t want to keep him. Of course the question is who decided he was not wanted at Newcastle, and was this done with the support of Alan Shearer? But we have to think things are not that bad at the club that the powers that be would go and tell players they are not wanted. However, we may also be over-estimating the sense of Ashley and Llambias in this. Peter scored three vital goals for Newcastle in just 12 appearances, and had hoped to win a permanent deal at St James’ Park, amd was certainly a popular player with both the fans and his own team mates. This seems a pity, because it seems to us that Peter is the kind of player the club needs, but with top youngsters coming through like Andy Carroll and Nile Ranger, perhaps the Dane was thought to be surplus to requirements at Newcastle. And again we have to assume this was done with Alan Shearer’s knowledge. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 122.121.214.91
