Roeder plays down Shearer talk
By Graeme Bailey - Created on 27 Mar 2007
Glenn Roeder insists he is not just keeping the Newcastle's managerial
seat warm for Alan Shearer.
Roeder has come under increasing pressure recently after Newcastle bowed
out of the Uefa Cup - their last chance of silverware this term.
With The Magpies sat in lower mid-table, a Uefa Cup place also looks a
distant prospect.
However, Roeder has refuted local suggestions that Newcastle legend
Shearer is ready to quit as a media pundit and return to St James' Park.
砲德帶領球隊的成績有目共睹
因為連歐協盃也提早結束,有傳老妖即將回來擔任領隊
砲德當然否認,強調他不會被老妖取代。
"Alan texts me before every single game wishing me all the best," said
Roeder.
(砲德:人家還每個禮拜為我加油呢~)
嘿嘿,話說歷任主帥離隊都是因為老妖發言說不爽,你還是小心點。
"I don't think I am just keeping the seat warm for Alan. I see myself here
long term, very much so.
"We have mentioned Alan and I see him as my friend. He texts me with
little messages and has been very supportive.
"As a football person he understands the problems we have had.
"He has endorsed that during the season at times by saying how difficult
the job has been.
"I do not believe anyone else could have done any better. I do not believe
it.
(你別拿人家跟你比較好不好!)
"There are still eight games to go and we must finish the season on a high.
No-one has been more disappointed than me by our reaction when we've gone a
goal down in the last couple of games."
Roeder feels Newcastle's problems are entrenched ones and he will need
time to overcome the deep rooted causes of why the club continue to fail.
"That result against Alkmaar is Newcastle," he said.
"Not just this season, not last season, it is the Newcastle which threw
away a 12-point lead at the top of the Premiership, which you would have
thought was impossible. That is Newcastle.
"The problem is, it has happened so often. If you go back years and years
to when I was a player here and before, the fans are used to it, they expect
it to happen.
"It's stitched into the badge. Somebody has to unstitch it and I want it
to be me." Roeder also says that he should not be judged until he has also
made his own mark on the current squad.
"Now anyone who comes in here will be my signing," he said.
"I am happy to be judged on Martins, Sibierski and Duff - but three
signings is not my squad.
"If we can get another four or more, then half the squad will be mine.
"Get through the first couple of years - and then you're on a roll."
(呵欠~)
