Skysports.com Taylor hails young Magpies By Alex Livie - Created on 1 Mar 2007 Steven Taylor feels Newcastle's youngsters have proved they have the quality to compete in the Premiership. The Magpies have seen a number of their established stars laid low with long-term injuries and this has forced manager Glenn Roeder to dip into his youth ranks to plug the gaps. Central defender Taylor is one player who has secured a regular run in the team, while the likes of Peter Ramage, Paul Huntington, James Milner and Charles N'Zogbia have also played key parts for the club. Taylor believes the young Magies have not disgraced themselves and feels the addition of a couple of new faces in the summer could see the club challenging in the top reaches of the Premiership. "It has been unbelievable for us with the injuries we have had to do what we have," Taylor said on Sky Sports News. "A lot of the young lads have come through, they have done fantastic to come in against some of the top sides. "We have got to stick together, that is important. We have a small squad and we have to live with that. "Hopefully in the summer we can get some new signings together and we will be okay." Taylor reserved special praise for Obafemi Martins who has led the Newcastle line superbly following the injury to Michael Owen. "Obafemi has done fantastic for us," added Taylor. "He has scored a lot of goals, but it is not just his goals as he has provided a lot of assists."
