Atkin joins Carlisle from Magpies

Carlisle have signed Newcastle defender Liam Atkin, reports BBC Radio Cumbria.

The 20-year-old central defender played for the Cumbrians' reserves in a
behind-closed-doors friendly against Preston earlier this week.

The League One side have now taken over the remainder of Atkin's Magpies
contract, which was due to run until the end of this season.

"We've had a good look at him and we are happy to have him here," boss Neil
McDonald told Carlisle's website.

Atkin came up through the Magpies' youth ranks but has not made a first-team
appearance.
