Roeder happy with policy
By Alex Livie - Created on 2 Feb 2007
Glenn Roeder claims he is happy with Newcastle's transfer dealings during
the January window.
Despite expressing a desire to bring in both attacking and defensive
reinforcements, Roeder was only able to sign American stopper Oguchi Onyewu on
loan from Standard Liege.
Roeder had targeted a raft of promising talents but was unable to prise
them away from their clubs and he claims this is a policy he would rather
continue than settle on stop-gap solutions.
"There has to be some sort of business head put on," Roeder told the Daily
Mirror. "There has to be constructive thinking outside of the short term of
'well he'll be okay for 12 months and then be worth nothing'.
"You just cannot gamble on the players who have got poor CVs. The players
we targeted are still at their clubs.
"They've been of the younger age who would come to Newcastle and play for
many years.
"We've not been able to prise them away but that doesn't mean we are not
going back in the summer."
