Shay Given admits Newcastle have lost touch with the top four in the
Premiership over the past few seasons.
The Magpies used to be regulars in the top four but have found themselves
languishing in mid-table recently.
However, Given is confident Newcastle can return to the top and fulfil his
ambition to bring trophies to St James' Park.

"It's important that we know we have drifted away from the top four - and
important that we get back there," Given said in The Sun.
"We were fourth, third and fifth in the league and since then have been
14th and seventh.

"So it's fair comment to say we've lost touch with the teams. We want to
play in the Champions League again because of the revenue involved, but there
is no avoiding the fact we have moved away from it.
"We are not a million miles away, though. I know some clubs are getting
big investors - and certainly expect Liverpool to push Chelsea and Manchester
United next season.
"But our chairman has always been great at backing managers with money, we
have a great training ground and great fans. We are set up for silverware."

Given currently only has one winner's medal in his career, which came
while on loan at Sunderland in 1995.

He added: "I have not achieved enough in terms of winning trophies and
medals.
"I'm still looking to pick up something with Newcastle. I have ambitions
and I believe they can be achieved here."
