Released initially for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the first Super Mario Kart took full advantage of the Mode 7 rotating features of the system, immersing gamers in a 3-D racing universe while picking up coins and power-ups that could either boost you ahead or slow down your competition. It expanded upon a lot of the ideas greatly, and became a big hit with gamers. That's because with the launch of the game came Nintendo's official Wi-Fi network, allowing gamers to hook up online nationwide, for no charge, to race in a series of events.
