Nuggets waive five players prior to season opener

Augmon, guard Anthony Roberson, forward-center Jelani McCoy, forward-center
Brad Stricker and guard Mike Wilks.
The Nuggets' roster is down to 14 with 12 active spots available for
Wednesday's season opener vs. the Seattle SuperSonics.
The 39-year-old Augmon played in five preseason contests for Denver,
averaging 3.2 points and 2.6 rebounds. Known as "The Plastic Man" for his
wiry frame, Augmon averaged 8.0 points in his 15-year career - peaking with
the Atlanta Hawks in the early 1990s.

Roberson, 24, appeared in five games for the Nuggets this preseason,
averaging 14.2 points and 4.4 assists. He averaged 4.1 points in parts of two
seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors.
McCoy, 29, appeared in four exhibition games for the Nuggets, netting 4.5
points and grabbing 5.5 rebounds. A former second-round pick from UCLA, he
has played parts of seven seasons with five teams.
The 30-year-old Stricker and the 28-year-old Wilks, both with minimal NBA
experience, played sparingly in the preseason.
