就如先前"資訊小屋"中提到,
Oasis 的最原始團名叫 "Rain"
是由最原始的三個團員 Paul Authurs (Bonehead), Paul McGuigan (Guigsy)
和 Tony McCarrol 所命名的.
但是後來由於主唱 Liam 加入後強力的反對,
因而改成現在的 Oasis
關於此響亮名號的由來有多方說詞,
最"光明正大"也最常被公司及歌迷傳為佳話的說法是
取名"綠洲"(oasis)
是指他們的音樂將會是流行荒漠中的活水泉源
("it means an oasis in a musical desert.")
而 Noel 則表示
其實"oasis"是曼徹斯特地鐵市場一家服裝店的名字
("it came from the name of a clothes shop in the Underground
Market in Manchester.")
事實上,真相是
"Oasis"出自於 Liam 和 Noel 臥室(註1)牆上 Inspiral Carpets (註2)
一站演唱會海報上的地點名 Swindon Oasis
("In fact, the truth is that the name came from an Inspiral Carpets
poster that was in Liam and Noel's bedroom, advertising a gig at
the Swindon Oasis.")
(註1)Liam 和 Noel 自小便共同分享一間房;大哥 Paul 才有自己的房間.
(註2)Inspiral Carpets 和 Stone Roses, Happy Mondays 為八O年代曼城樂團三大巨頭.
Noel和 Inspiral 的主唱 Clint Boon 在當時是很好的朋友,
Noel也擔任 Inspiral 的"器材"(Roadie),隨他們巡迴過一陣子,
奠定了在音樂界生存的基礎和關係.
