Liam's first song-writing effort, Little James, a tribute to his stepson,
appears on Giants.
And he says Noel had better watch out because there are more where that came
from.
"I've got hold of the steering wheel in this band," he claims. "There used to
be one songwriter, now there's four and it's going to be a fun journey.
"I've now written nine of my own songs and they'll blow your head off.
There's one for Lennon because I want to tell him how much I love him.
"Maybe I'll just write songs for kids - I'll write yours one if you want. I
could do a Christmas album for children.
"A lot of critics slagged off Little James's lyrics. But what people have to
remember is I wrote it so he could understand it. You got it right in your
review because you understand where I'm coming from."
And he says defiantly: "People criticise me, but I'm goodlooking and a great
singer.
"What more do you want? Name another singer who's as good as me. Name me one
album out now that's as good as ours. It's rocking and we're back."
The fans share his confidence in the album. Giants has sold 143,700 copies
since it was released on Monday, outselling its nearest rival 14-1.
Liam adds: "I'm just buzzing about getting on stage again and singing those
songs. The Brits are going to be s*** this year because we're not there."
Drummer Alan White sits quietly in the corner but there's no sign of the new
recruits, bassist Andy Bell and guitarist Gem Archer. Brother Noel's tucked
up in bed, too.
Liam says: "I don't see him much. I've got the room next door and we
communicate through the walls.
"It's like Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. We've got our guitars and I'll
play him a tune and he'll play one back - 'Dee-dee-do-do-doo' and all that."
Among the other subjects we touch on are football, music, clothes and
journalism. He tells me: "Your column is the best in the business."
We even discuss the Mirror shares scandal. And when I ask him if he has any
investments, he delivers another one-liner: "I only own shares in two things
- love and the truth."
The only time Liam gets angry is when I mention a certain Robbie Williams.
The Gallaghers slagged off Robbie recently and he responded by sending them a
wreath, via me, with the note: "Dear Noel, R.I.P. Heard your new album. You
have my deepest sympathy."
Liam growls: "He'll regret that. I'll get him somewhere quiet when he's least
expecting it.
"He won't be sending wreaths when he's in hospital. I'll send him some diet
pills and a fat Elvis costume, though."
Then his mood lightens. As I nip to the loo, he follows me with his video
camera and films me having a pee.
And as he struts off singing Go Let It Out, he laughs like a maniac.
It's great to have him back.
