Noel Gallagher has exclusively revealed details on his part in the
forthcoming John Lennon tribute, to celebrate the 60th birthday of
the former Beatles star.
Noel will take centre stage with pal Johnny Marr on a cover
of `Tomorrow Never Knows'. Oasis drummer Alan White will
collaborate with Paul Weller and brother Steve on a rocking version of
`Instant Karma'.
Speaking to the BBC at Reading festival Noel commented: "Yeah,
I'm doing a John Lennon tribute. The thing that's going out on John
Lennon is what would have been his 60th birthday. Liam might be
doing a cover of `Imagine', but I don't know ifLiam's doing it or not.
"Alan's doing `Instant Karma' with Paul Weller`cos they use two
drummers, so Steve and Alan are doing that. I'm doing`Tomorrow Never Knows'
with Johnny Marr. It's be great to have himplaying on some of our stuff.
Johnny needs a bit of a lift lately. He'sbeen out of the public eye for a
while so I thought I'd give him a bit of a leg up, you know!"
Playing down Oasis-split rumours, Noel blames British tabloid rumours
for getting out of hand.
"You know, once one paper runs it, it becomes fact. There
isn't going to be an announcement on Tuesday apart from `Can anybody
get me anymore paracetamol?'. That'll be the only announcement
I'll be making on Tuesday."
The John Lennon 60th birthday tribute will be presented by Radio 1 DJ
Jo Wiley and musician Jools Holland. Times to be confirmed.
