Liam named worst role model
Beckham gets male vote as perfect father
David Beckham is most men's idea of the perfect father, according to
a new survey.
The Manchester United footballer and father of two-year-old Brooklyn
topped the poll of perfect parents in a survey of first-time dads.
Oasis star Liam Gallagher was named the worst role model for new
fathers.
More than 400 men in the UK were questioned for the poll by medical
insurers Norwich Union Healthcare.
A quarter of first-time fathers wanted to experience the sensation of
being pregnant for a day.
And nine out of ten said watching their partner give birth was the
best experience of their lives - even though a fifth admitted to
feeling squeamish.
But despite their joy men seem woefully unprepared for their new role
as fathers.
One in three do not read anything about pregnancy or childbirth
before their baby is born - and three quarters did not talk to their
partners about their feelings or concerns about becoming a parent.
Half had not attended antenatal classes with their partner and a
similar proportion felt there was not enough information around for
men.
But the budget announcement of two weeks paid paternity leave for men
was shown to be a vote-winner. The average man only takes four days
off work after the birth of a child - and nine out of ten believe
they should be granted leave on becoming a father.
