Noel and Liam feel Proud
Noel and Liam Gallagher turned up at the Brixton Academy on Friday
night to watch new proteges Proud Mary. Noel's new signing to his
record label, Sour Mash, were supporting Toploader at last night's
gig.
The band played a blistering 30 minute set and their guitar based
rock heavily influenced by The Verve and Oasis, proved why Noel had
signed them to his label. After the gig, Noel, who was with
girlfriend Sara McDonald and Liam, who was with his pregnant
girlfriend Nicole Appleton, were spotted by worldpop in the VIP bar
at the Academy giving fatherly advice to the Proud Mary fourpiece
about life in a rock and roll band and the best way to approach a
live gig. TV presenter Gail Porter, dressed, bizarrely in a cowboy
outfit was spotted flitting between guests and behaving in a rather
odd manner. Porter is currently dating Toploader's guitarist Dan .
Proud Mary release their first single Very Best Friend on the 9
April. The track is taken from their debut album The Same Old Blues.
Proud Mary are also supporting The Stereophonics on their forthcoming
summer festival dates at Donington Racetrack and Chepstow racecourse.
Proud Mary are Greg Griffin (vocals), Paul Newsome (guitar, backing
vocals), Adam Gray (guitar, slide guitar) and Nev Cottee (bass) .
The Same Old Blues was recorded at Wheeler End Studios by Noel
Gallagher and will be the first release on Gallagher's own Sour Mash
record label. Gallagher had just completed production duties earlier
this year when he flew off to appear with Neil Young at the Rock In
Rio Festival. When Noel handed over a copy of the album to Young, the
grizzled rock legend was heard to mutter that he's very pleased to be
the only person he knows with a copy of the new Oasis album!
