在 Made in Ameirca 這張 bootleg 第一次聽到 Whatever 這首歌
Noel 用吉他唱的
短短一天之內
就放了二三十次
好像在貪心的向這首歌
汲取可以儲存一輩子的自由
深怕一停止
現實又會開始荼毒我
「你才不能這樣呢」

「這樣不太好吧」
「那樣會糟糕哦」
「這樣怪怪的哩」

從一出生就被制約的
我的神經和我的心
就和 Live Forever 或 Masterplan 一樣
這首 Whatever 並不是完全明快光明的白爛正面歌曲
特別是用 acoustic 來詮釋的時候
你甚至可以嗅到掙扎妥協之間的無奈和哀傷
那種其實知道現實生活是怎麼一回事，我們又是如何被限制
卻抵死捂著耳朵也要唱著「我是自由的！」也要盡情想像拓展自己可能性
頑固的不知死活不瞭天高地厚的靈魂
呵 live 版本加上的披頭 Octopus' Garden
讓這首歌昇華到完全超現實的個人境界
變成愛幻想圈圈內所有的善男信女的了悟默契
我彷彿同時看到林哥史達和他的男孩女孩們
陳玉勳與他悠游於都市文明叢林的「熱帶魚」
張作冀還有小偉阿傑玩耍的湛藍水底
分別在章魚花園的各個角落
和頭子孩子王的綠洲遙相呼應
不過我自己
還在咕嚕咕嚕的吐氣
怕潛得太深
會受不了水壓
和可能淹死的代價
所以我仍然睜大眼睛
豎起耳朵
一次又一次貪婪沒用的偷窺偷聽
